Chapter 5 - The Execution of Mercer EnterprisesSabrina Vale took an involuntary step back, her red-nailed hand slipping off Ethan's sleeve as she looked from my emerald dress to the imposing frame of Julian Vance.

"Ethan..." Sabrina whimpered, her voice shaking. "Who is this...?"

"Shut up, Sabrina!" Ethan growled, stepping toward me, his face contorted in a wild mixture of panic, rage, and pathetic desperation. "Claire! What is the meaning of this spectacle?! You have no right to be at a private industry gala!"

Arthur Sterling stepped forward, opening a thick leather binder, projecting certified federal court decrees onto the ballroom's eighty-foot media screens:

[NOTICE OF IMMEDIATE FORECLOSURE: MERCER ENTERPRISES LAND LEASES REVOKED BY CHAIRWOMAN CLAIRE MERCER.]

[ACCOMPANYING ARREST WARRANT: ETHAN MERCER — GRAND WIRE FRAUD & EMBEZZLEMENT.]

The three hundred investors and board members in the room gasped, pulling out their tablets frantically as they read the live court filings.

"Land leases revoked?!" the vice president of Mercer Enterprises yelled from the front row. "Ethan, you told us we owned the ground beneath our towers!"

"He lied to you," Julian Vance announced, his baritone booming through the silent hall. "Ethan Mercer forged his wife’s signature while she was carrying his children, attempting to steal eighty million dollars in trust assets to fund his personal lifestyle in Los Angeles."

Ethan went paper-white. Sweat poured down his forehead, soaking his collar. "Claire... please! We can talk about this! We were married for five years! Think about our babies!"

A cold, dry laugh escaped my lips—a sound that made Ethan flinch as if I had struck him across the face.

"You didn't care about our babies when you left me on a glass table while I was in pre-term labor, Ethan," I said softly, every word dropped like an iron weight into his ruined world. "You didn't care when my water broke on a city bus while your phone lit up with Sabrina's name."

Ethan’s eyes widened into vast circles of pure, unadulterated terror. "Your... your water broke on a bus...?"

"They were born three months ago, Ethan," I revealed, leaning in close so only he could hear my quiet, razor-sharp words. "Two boys and a girl. Leo, Alexander, and Maya. They are healthy, strong, and beautiful... and your name will never, ever appear on their birth certificates."

Two uniformed federal marshals stepped through the double mahogany doors, walking cleanly down the aisle, slapping heavy steel handcuffs around Ethan’s wrists.

Sabrina Vale shrieked, backing away into the crowd, her face filled with horror as photographers snapped dozens of flashing pictures of Ethan being led away in chains.

"Claire! No! CLAIRE!" Ethan wept, his voice cracking as he was dragged down the aisle toward the transport sedans. "PLEASE! DON'T DO THIS TO ME!"

I turned my back on his crying frame, taking Julian’s arm, stepping into the bright sunlight of our victory.
