Chapter 4 - The Group Chat ReversalThree days later, the private maternity suite at Saint Jude Medical Center was warm, sunlit, and filled with blooming white lilies and fresh fruit baskets sent by my former colleagues and friends.

I sat in a comfortable reclining chair near the window, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater, cradling my stomach. The dark purple bruise on my left thigh was beginning to fade, and my unborn daughter was kicking gently against my palm—a strong, vibrant rhythm that brought tears of happiness to my eyes.
Beside me, Nicole's seized smartphone sat on the side table, connected to a laptop operated by Jax.
"The digital forensics team just finished extracting the entire archive from the Vance family group chat, Maya," Jax reported with a cold, professional grin.
I looked at the laptop screen.
The group chat—titled "The Vance Dynasty"—contained hundreds of messages sent over three years.
There were dozens of degrading photos Helen had secretly taken of me while I was scrubbing their floors, mocking texts from Trent boasting about how he kept me "in line," and video clips shared by Nicole showing her laughing while her mother ordered me to clean their mudroom while running a fever.
"They used this group chat to coordinate their abuse," Jax explained. "They shared videos with twenty-two extended family members, including Trent’s wealthy uncles in Chicago and Helen’s social club friends."
"Show me the chat from five o'clock Tuesday morning," I said softly, my voice firm and clear.
Jax tapped the keyboard.
The final messages, sent twenty minutes before Alex kicked down the door, appeared on the screen:
[HELEN VANCE]: Trent is giving the lazy cow her morning lesson! She thinks being pregnant means she gets to sleep past 5 AM!
[NICOLE VANCE]: [ATTACHED VIDEO: 12 SECONDS] Look at her crawling on the floor! The Lazy Wife Correction! 🤣🤣🤣
[UNCLE ARTHUR]: Good! Teach her how a real Vance wife behaves!
I looked at those sickening words—at the sheer, sociopathic cruelty of people who claimed to be my family—and felt the last remaining threads of self-doubt dissolve from my heart.
"Jax," I said cleanly.
"Yes, Maya?"
"I want that entire chat log, along with the unredacted video of Trent beating me with the walking stick, sent directly to every member of their social club, their church board, and their corporate clients."
Jax’s sharp, dark eyes lit up with absolute, vengeful delight. "Consider it done, Maya."
At 2:00 PM that afternoon, the video detonated across the city's private social networks like a nuclear warhead.

Within two hours, Helen Vance was formally expelled from the Country Club Committee, her name scrubbed from three charitable boards. Nicole Vance was suspended from her private university pending a formal ethics investigation, her sorority revoking her membership effective immediately.
The wealthy Vance family—who had spent five years treating me like a dirty, disposable servant—woke up to find that the entire city viewed them as disgusting, barbaric monsters.
