Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Manhattan Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, commercial shipping directors, municipal judges, and high-society figures gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual New York Real Estate & Logistics Assembly.
Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a thousand-dollar tuxedo, holding a gold fountain pen, was thirty-six-year-old Ethan Bennett. Beside him sat his mistress, Vanessa Sterling, wearing an expensive crimson designer gown, her diamond rings catching the light as she smirked arrogance over her champagne glass.
Ethan’s face wore a practiced expression of solemn grief as he prepared to sign corporate buyout documents to liquidate Tessa’s late father’s trust, having told the press that his "unstable" wife was currently committed to a private psychiatric ward.
"Gentlemen!" Ethan announced smoothly into the central microphone, his voice dripping with false sympathy, "today we finalize the administrative acquisition of the Bennett Chemical Berths, honoring the unfortunate medical retirement of my wife, Tessa—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance, Detective Cole Voss, and four armed federal marshals, was Don Vincent Vance.
He wore an magnificent dark charcoal bespoke suit, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, supported by his strong arm, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Tessa Bennett-Vance.
Around her neck hung the fifty-carat emerald signet pendant of the Vance-Bennett Dynasty, her posture regal, her presence dominating the entire room.
Ethan Bennett dropped his gold fountain pen.
CRASH!
The heavy metal pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Vanessa Sterling stood up so fast she knocked her champagne glass over onto her crimson train.
"E-ETHAN...?! VINCENT VANCE?! TESSA?!" Vanessa stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the stage. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN A PSYCHIATRIC WARD!"
"She isn't in a psychiatric ward, Vanessa," Vincent Vance announced flatly, his clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Vance-Bennett Heritage Trust... and the sole owner of your entire building."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Ethan Bennett’s trembling hands:
TOTAL EQUITY SEIZURE & LOCKOUT: Certified federal enforcement of the Bennett Trust Deeds, confirming Chairwoman Tessa Bennett’s 100% controlling equity, terminating Ethan Bennett’s executive employment effective immediately.
ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Ethan Bennett and Vanessa Sterling for Premeditated First-Degree Attempted Murder (against Tessa), First-Degree Murder (against Victoria Bennett), Evidence Tampering, Forgery, and $150 Million Wire Fraud.
IMMEDIATE FORECLOSURE & EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Bennett-Sterling Group.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Ethan shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "TESSA, I AM YOUR HUSBAND! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!"
"You stopped being my husband the night you beat me unconscious and dumped me in a freezing alley," Tessa corrected deadpan, stepping beside Vincent, wrapping her arm around his waist, leaning flush against his solid side. "Now you pay for Victoria... and for me."
