Chapter 2 - The Audit of Project SilenceBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive command suite at The Vance Global Tower overlooking Manhattan was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators in dark suits guarded every corridor. Inside the private medical suite adjoining the executive study, I lay in a plush velvet armchair, wrapped in a warm cashmere blanket, holding a mug of hot chamomile tea while Dr. Karen Whitmore monitored my recovery.

Across the broad black granite conference table sat Vincent Vance, Detective Cole Voss, Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton, and two federal forensic accounting experts.

Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers, wiretap logs, and video files flat onto the table before Vincent and me:

"Vincent, Tessa," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her voice dropping into a register of surgical fury. "The forensic audit into Ethan Bennett, Vanessa Sterling, and the Bennett-Sterling Real Estate Group is complete."

Vincent stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, his suit jacket off, his sleeves rolled up to reveal his muscular, inked arms, a glass of untouched bourbon in his hand.

Bridget tapped the digital displays:

THE MURDER & CONSPIRACY DOSSIER: Certified federal forensic logs from the silver USB drive proving Ethan Bennett and Vanessa Sterling conspired to commit first-degree murder against Victoria Bennett three years ago, using embezzled funds to finance Vanessa’s luxury lifestyle.

THE ONE-HUNDRED-FIFTY-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Proof that Ethan and Vanessa systematically forged Tessa’s signature on forty-eight property deeds, attempting to transfer Tessa’s late father’s chemical logistics trust into Panamanian shell accounts.

THE SOVEREIGN HERITAGE TRUST: Original probate charters confirming thirty-two-year-old Donna Tessa Bennett-Vance as sole sixty percent controlling common equity holder over the entire Vance-Bennett Maritime Network—making her Ethan's ultimate corporate superior.

My hands tightened around my teacup until the porcelain creaked.

"They recorded my screams while I begged for my life," I rasped out, every single word falling like an iron block into the silent room. "Vanessa said I was going to look pathetic when everyone saw her video."

Vincent walked across the room, dropping flat onto one knee right in front of my chair. The feared titan who commanded New York’s maritime empire reached out, taking my small, bandage-wrapped hands into his broad, calloused palms, pressing his lips gently against my knuckles.

"They used your quiet heart to hide their evil, Tessa," Vincent promised, looking into my eyes with pure, humble reverence and absolute, protective rage. "Tomorrow morning at the Manhattan Financial Assembly... you stand before New York as the true queen of this empire."
