Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Golden BriocheIn late September 2026, one year after that dark bus ride to Grey Haven, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Grace Bennett Heritage & Culinary Integrity Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

On a private velvet pedestal near the presentation podium rested a beautifully glazed loaf of golden brioche—a symbol of sovereign resilience, warmth, and unbroken love.

Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding seven-year-old Leo, Noah, and five-year-old Lily near his sides, was Don Dominic Blackwood.

Beside him stood Donna Grace Bennett-Blackwood, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.

Around my neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.

Dominic adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:

"One year ago, an arrogant coward threw away the most extraordinary woman in New York because of flour on her sleeve, completely unaware that she was the queen destined to save my children and my life," Dominic announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable devotion as he looked down at me and our three children. "And on that night, a brave baker stepped into a dark Hudson Valley kitchen, shattered a traitor's conspiracy, claimed her sovereign birthright, and brought my entire world back to the light."

Dominic held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To my Chairwoman, my savior, and the queen of my heart: Donna Grace Bennett-Blackwood!"

"To Grace!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
