Chapter 4 - The Offer at the HotelAt 8:00 PM that evening, I sat in the private lounge of The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, drinking warm chamomile tea.

Noah was upstairs in our room, happily video-calling his high school math teacher to share the details of his grant award.

The heavy mahogany doors of the lounge opened, and Vincent walked in alone. He had changed into a dark wool overcoat over a simple black dress shirt. He looked exhausted, his broad shoulders slouched, the severe, invincible Don replaced by a father crushed by eighteen years of missed moments.

He sat down in the leather armchair across from me, setting a thick leather briefcase onto the glass coffee table.

"He's incredible, Claire," Vincent whispered softly, his gray eyes shining with genuine, tearful awe. "I listened to him speak on stage today. He speaks like my father. He has your grace... and my focus."

"He built all of it without a dollar of Moretti money, Vincent," I noted quietly, looking into his eyes. "He worked as a tutor at sixteen to pay for his SAT prep courses. He bought his own books."

Vincent winced as if I had driven a dagger into his chest. He buried his face in his calloused hands, a heavy, shuddering sob escaping his throat.

"I didn't know, Claire," Vincent wept, his voice breaking into raw, pathetic threads. "I swear on my mother's grave... I thought you took a settlement and wanted nothing to do with me. If I had known you were carrying Noah... I would have torn Chicago apart to bring you home."

"That's why I didn't tell you, Vincent," I answered softly, my voice firm and unbroken. "Because you would have used your power, your money, and your syndicate to force us into a world of bodyguards, rivalries, and endless drama. Noah deserved a life built on peace, not power."

Vincent slowly opened the leather briefcase on the table.

Inside were four thick legal binders bound by red judicial seals:

THE NOAH BENNETT MORETTI TRUST: An irrevocable trust granting Noah sixty percent controlling equity in Moretti Global Logistics and all associated real estate holdings, valued at over four hundred million dollars.

THE DEED TO THE BOSTON ESTATE: A magnificent oceanfront property in Beacon Hill, registered solely under my name.

FULL RECOVERY OF INTERCEPTED FUNDS: A check for five point four million dollars—the stolen child support recovered from Sophia's seized assets—deposited directly into my private account.

"I don't ask you to come back to me, Claire," Vincent begged, falling onto his knees on the carpet in front of my chair, looking up at me with raw, groveling devotion. "I don't ask for your forgiveness. But please... let me give our son what belongs to him. Let me sit in the back row when he graduates. Let me be his father."
