Chapter 3 - The Destruction of Sophia ReynoldsThe air inside the glass atrium turned into liquid ice.

Vincent stared at the tablet screen, watching certified bank wire logs confirming that the woman sitting in his home for eighteen years had systematically stolen the child support meant for his firstborn son, while allowing him to believe I had rejected his help.
"You..." Vincent whispered.
He turned toward Sophia. His expression wasn't merely anger; it was an apocalyptic, sovereign fury that made two nearby security guards instinctively reach for their sidearms.
"Vincent! No! Please!" Sophia shrieked, falling onto her knees right on the polished granite floorboards of Harvard University, clutching his trousers in a groveling, desperate plea. "I did it for our family! I did it for Ethan! If she had money, she would have come back! She would have taken you away from us!"
Vincent didn't yell. He didn't strike her.
He kicked her hands off his hem with cold, weightless disgust.
"Marcus," Vincent commanded softly, every word dropped like a slab of frozen lead.
"Yes, Don Vincent?"
"Initiate immediate civil and criminal proceedings against Sophia Reynolds for Wire Fraud, Grand Larceny, and Embezzlement," Vincent ordered, never taking his eyes off her weeping, pathetic frame. "Evict her from the River Forest estate by midnight. Freeze every credit line, every account, and every asset registered in her name."
Sophia thrashed on the floor, weeping hysterical, frantic tears as two Moretti security operators stepped forward, grabbing her arms, pulling her up from the granite floor.
"VINCENT! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" Sophia screamed as she was dragged toward the exit in total, public disgrace, surrounded by staring faculty members and students. "I'M ETHAN'S MOTHER! WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS!"
"You were never my wife, Sophia," Vincent answered coldly, turning his back on her forever. "You were just a mistake I took eighteen years to correct."

Seventeen-year-old Ethan stood near the pillar, watching his mother being dragged away. He looked at Vincent with wide, terrified eyes, then looked at Noah across the room.
Vincent walked over to Ethan, placing a cold hand on the boy's shoulder. "Go to the car, Ethan. Your mother's actions do not change your trust fund, but you will learn today what happens when people build their lives on lies."
