Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Lost DynastyBy 1:00 AM, the top-floor penthouse executive command center at The Moretti Tower on Fifth Avenue was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty elite tactical operators from Vance Security guarded every entrance. Inside, five-year-old Liam and Chloe were fast asleep in a grand master bedroom, wrapped in soft cashmere blankets, holding their plush stuffed animals.
In the adjacent private executive study, I sat in a velvet armchair, wearing a warm wool sweater, drinking a cup of hot chamomile tea while a private pediatric specialist verified that the twins were completely unharmed.
Across the broad black granite table sat Dominic Moretti, alongside Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton and my operational security director, Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Vance.
Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and wiretap transcripts flat onto the table before Dominic and me:
"Dominic, Natalie," Bridget spoke flatly, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Isabella Russo and her father, Victor Russo, is complete."
Dominic leaned over the granite table, his hands planted flat on the counter, his charcoal jacket discarded, his broad chest heaving as his storm-gray eyes burned with a terrifying, apocalyptic rage.
"Explain it to her, Bridget," Dominic commanded, his baritone an icy rumble.
Bridget tapped the digital screens:
THE FABRICATED INFIDELITY PROOF: Forensic digital logs proving Isabella Russo paid $200,000 to a private detective in 2021 to deepfake photos of Natalie with a fake lover, slipping them into Dominic’s desk.
THE EMBEZZLED MATERNITY TRUST: Proof that Isabella Russo and Victor Russo systematically diverted $110 million from Natalie’s biological family trust (The Vance-Bennett Heritage Fund) into Panamanian shell accounts over five years.
THE PREMEDITATED SUPPRESSION: Intercepted wiretaps capturing Isabella Russo receiving medical reports from Natalie’s obstetrician in 2021, proving she knew Natalie was carrying twin heirs to the Moretti empire when she orchestrated her expulsion from New York.
My fists clenched flat against the armrests of my chair.
Five years.
For five years, I had lived in a small two-bedroom apartment, working double shifts to buy groceries, while the snake who frame-up my marriage lived in my penthouse and spent my father's trust capital.
"She knew..." Dominic whispered, his voice breaking into a ragged, weeping rasp as he looked down at the documents. "She knew you were carrying my children... and she made me drive you into the cold."
Dominic walked across the room, dropping flat onto both knees right in front of my chair.
The feared Don who commanded half of New York’s criminal underbelly lowered his head before me, taking my small, trembling hands into his broad, calloused palms, pressing his forehead against my knuckles.
"Natalie," Dominic wept, tears spilling over his lashes for the very first time in his life. "I was an arrogant, blind fool. I let a viper ruin our home and steal five years of my children's lives. I don't ask for your forgiveness today... but I swear on my mother's memory, Isabella Russo will pay for every single tear you shed."

I looked down at the man who had once been my husband, feeling the cold anger of five years slowly transform into a quiet, diamond-hard, sovereign victory.
"Tomorrow morning at the corporate assembly, Dominic," I said softly. "We tear her world down to the ash."
