Chapter 6 - The Return to Shaker HeightsThe black Rolls-Royce slipped quietly through the gates of the Shaker Heights mansion just past midnight. The grand estate, once a symbol of Spencer’s unearned status, suddenly felt cavernous, cold, and hollow.

Inside the master bedroom, the lights were warm and soft. Phoebe stood by the window, wearing a comfortable silk robe, watching the empty driveway below. On the vanity sat the old red velvet box, the SIM card resting neatly beside it. She hadn't cried once all evening. The tears had dried years ago, replaced by a profound, clarifying strength.
A gentle knock echoed at her door.
"Come in, Dad," she said softly.
The door swung open, and Raymond Harrell stepped inside. All the coldness and corporate ruthlessness he projected to the outside world vanished instantly, replaced by the profound, aching tenderness of a father who had nearly lost his child to a monster.
Raymond crossed the room in two strides and pulled Phoebe into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to come get you, sweetheart," Raymond murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "I promised myself I’d respect your independence, but I should have protected you from the moment he looked at you wrong."
Phoebe buried her face in his shoulder, letting out a long, shuddering breath that felt like shedding a three-year-old skin. "I wanted to believe love could change people, Dad. I was wrong."
"Love doesn't require you to make yourself small, Phoebe," Raymond said gently, kissing the top of her head. "A real partner lifts you up. They don't lock you away in the dark because they're terrified someone might see your true worth."
Downstairs, the heavy front door slammed open. Heavy, desperate footsteps thudded up the stairs.

A moment later, the bedroom door flew wide open.
Spencer stood in the doorway, disheveled, his tie ripped loose, his suit jacket rumpled, his eyes wild and desperate. He looked past Raymond, staring straight at Phoebe as if looking at a ghost.
