Chapter 7 - The Crown and the HearthSix months later.

The afternoon sun shone brightly over the rolling green gardens of the Casaro Estate in Upstate New York.

The quiet mountain air was completely removed from the noise and corruption of the city. My father sat on the expansive stone patio in a plush armchair, reading a newspaper, a healthy, robust color returned to his cheeks. His recovery was complete.

I walked out onto the stone terrace wearing a simple white linen dress, carrying two glasses of iced lemonade.

"Here you go, Dad," I smiled, handing him a glass.

"Thank you, sweetheart," Dad said, looking up at me with deep, quiet pride. "You look truly peaceful, Myra."

"I am peaceful, Dad," I said, resting my arm on the stone railing, looking out over the blooming valley.

Nico was gone—living in a tiny, rundown studio apartment in Newark, working twelve-hour shifts at a commercial car wash, stripped of every cent, every contact, and every shred of authority he had ever claimed. Chloe had been expelled from her university, her family's reputation utterly destroyed by the public corruption scandal.

Under my formal management as Trustee, Casaro Logistics had converted three major waterfront terminals into public trade hubs and legal shipping facilities, cleansing the family's assets of their darkest shadows.

Footsteps echoed softly behind me on the flagstone patio.

I turned to see Leo walking toward us. He wore a relaxed white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking striking, powerful, and undeniably handsome in the natural light.

He walked up to my father first, placing a respectful hand on Dad’s shoulder. "How are the ribs feeling today, Frank?"

"Never better, Leo," Dad smiled warmly. "Thanks to your medical team."

Leo turned his gray eyes toward me. The icy distance that had once guarded his gaze was entirely gone, replaced by a deep, dark warmth that made my breath catch in my throat every time he looked my way.

"Walk with me, Myra," Leo murmured softly, extending his hand.

I placed my palm in his, feeling the broad, reassuring warmth of his fingers closing gently around mine.

We walked down the wide stone steps into the central rose garden, the sweet fragrance of summer blooms filling the warm air.

"The board unanimously approved your new educational foundation budget this morning," Leo said as we strolled along the gravel path. "You are officially the most influential philanthropist in the state, Myra."

"We built it together, Leo," I smiled, looking up into his strong profile. "You gave me the power to fight back when I was at my lowest."

Leo stopped beside the marble fountain, turning to face me completely. He reached out, his long fingers gently tucking a stray lock of dark hair behind my ear, his thumb tracing the line of my jawline.

"I didn't give you power, Myra," Leo whispered, his deep voice vibrating gently in his chest. "You possessed the fire inside you all along. I simply gave you the room to burn."

I looked up into his gray eyes, feeling the unbreakable, powerful bond that had forged between us through betrayal, strategy, and triumph. He had protected my father, honored my dignity, and stood beside me when my world had shattered.

"What comes next for us, Leo?" I asked softly, stepping closer to his tall frame.

Leo leaned down, his lips lingering barely an inch from mine, his warm breath fanning across my skin.

"Now," Leo murmured, his strong hand wrapping securely around my waist, pulling me firmly against his chest, "the empire belongs to us. And I am never letting you go."

He pressed his lips to mine—a deep, commanding, passionate kiss that silenced every lingering shadow of the past and opened a bright, triumphant future.

The heartbroken girl who had walked barefoot into the lion's den was gone forever. In her place stood the queen who had conquered the dark, standing proudly beside the sovereign who loved her.
