Chapter 4 - The Injunction at the Greenwich GatesThe massive iron gates of the Whitmore estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, stood open for the first time in years.

Inside the grand foyer, Raymond Whitmore stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling mirror, adjusting his silk tie with an air of absolute, smug satisfaction. Life couldn't have been better. The messy business of getting rid of Clara was complete, Victoria’s father had just signed a ten-million-dollar development injection, and his mother, Margaret, was pouring morning espresso in the kitchen while discussing wedding venues for the autumn.
The heavy oak front door swung open without a knock.
Raymond turned, his brow furrowing in irritation as he expected a delivery driver.
Instead, stepping into the foyer were two federal marshals in dark suits, followed by Arthur Vance carrying a thick leather briefcase, and flanked by two private security guards.
—What is the meaning of this? —Raymond demanded, stepping forward, his voice dripping with aristocratic arrogance. —This is private property! How did you get past the gates?
Arthur Vance didn't even flinch. He walked right past Raymond as if he were a piece of furniture, stopping by the marble console table to lay out a thick stack of legal documents.
—Raymond Whitmore, —Arthur said, his voice crisp and emotionless. —You are hereby served with an emergency federal injunction and family court restraining order issued by the Superior Court of Fairfield County on behalf of your legal wife, Clara Whitmore.
Raymond let out a sharp, dismissive laugh.
—My former wife. She signed the abandonment waiver when she took her suitcase and left the property last week.
—She did no such thing, —Arthur replied smoothly, flipping open the document and pointing to a clean, unsigned signature line. —She simply vacated the premises under duress. Furthermore, because you failed to disclose material marital assets, concealed two million dollars in offshore accounts, and committed fraudulent dissipation of funds with Victoria Vance, this entire estate—along with all corporate holdings of Whitmore Development—is now placed under court-mandated receivership.
The color drained from Raymond’s face so rapidly he looked like a ghost.
—Receiver-what? Are you out of your mind? My father built this company! My board of directors—!
—Your board of directors has already been notified, —Arthur interrupted calmly. —And your primary credit lines have been frozen as of 9:00 AM this morning by order of Sterling Global Holdings—your primary senior debt holder.
At the mention of Sterling Global Holdings, Raymond staggered backward as if he had been physically struck in the chest.
—Sterling...? Julian Sterling holds our debt? That’s impossible! Sterling doesn't touch regional real estate in Connecticut!
Just then, the kitchen doors swung open, and Margaret Whitmore walked out, her silver hair perfectly pinned, her pearl necklace gleaming against her navy wool dress.
—Raymond, what is all this shouting about? Who are these—
Margaret stopped dead in her tracks as her eyes landed on Arthur Vance and the official court seals stamped across the documents on the marble table.
—Mrs. Whitmore, how delightful to see you again, —Arthur said with a chillingly polite smile. —Your son is about to experience a very thorough financial colonoscopy. And I suggest you both pack your bags immediately. Under the terms of the emergency injunction, you have two hours to vacate the premises. The new resident takes possession at noon.
—Vacate?! —Margaret shrieked, her aristocratic composure shattering instantly into raw, panicked fury. —This is our home! You can't throw us out! Who authorized this madness?! Who is behind this?!
Arthur Vance closed his briefcase with a sharp click, looking straight into Margaret’s terrified eyes.
May you like
—Ask your son, Mrs. Whitmore, —Arthur said quietly. —Ask him what happens when you throw a woman out into the cold without realizing whose family she was meant to join.
With that, Arthur and the marshals turned and walked out the door, leaving Raymond and Margaret standing in the opulent foyer, utterly paralyzed by the nightmare that had just swallowed their empire whole.
