Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Stolen BloodlineBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive suite at The Kane Tower overlooking Central Park was locked down under absolute, impenetrable security.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators in dark charcoal suits guarded every corridor. Inside, six-year-old Mia was fast asleep in a grand king-sized bed, wrapped in a warm cashmere blanket, holding Gerald the elephant close to her chest.
In the adjacent private executive study, I sat in a velvet armchair, sipping hot chamomile tea while my hands continued to shake.
Across the massive black granite desk sat Adrian Kane, alongside Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton and two federal forensic accounting experts.
Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and legal dossiers flat onto the desk toward Adrian and me:
THE FORGED DEATH CERTIFICATE: Forensic records proving Julian Kane forged Emily Parker’s death certificate in 2019 following the Chicago harbor explosion to prevent her from claiming her $180 million inheritance from the Blackwell Estate.
THE THREE-HUNDRED-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Proof that Julian Kane systematically diverted funds from the Blackwell & Reed accounts into Panamanian shell companies, using forged spousal proxies.
THE SOVEREIGN BLOODLINE TRUST: Certified probate documents confirming six-year-old Mia Kane-Parker as sole fifty-one percent controlling common equity holder over the combined Kane-Blackwell Logistics Empire upon her seventh birthday.
My fists clenched flat against the granite desk. The fear that had kept me hiding in small apartments for seven years melted away, replaced by a clean, diamond-hard, motherly rage.
"Julian lied to you, Adrian," I rasped out, tears spilling over my lashes as I looked across at the man I had never stopped loving. "He told me you died in the explosion. He paid off federal marshals to force me out of Chicago under a fake identity, threatening to murder Mia before she was even born if I ever tried to contact you."
Adrian slowly stood up from behind his desk. He walked around the granite counter until he stood inches in front of my chair.
May you like
He crouched down, taking my small, trembling hands into his broad, warm palms, pressing his forehead against mine.
"He stole seven years from us, Emily," Adrian promised, his deep baritone an unshakeable iron vow that shook the room. "He made you cry in the dark. He made my daughter ask strangers to be her daddy. Tomorrow morning... we tear Julian’s world down to the ash."
