Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Stolen HeirloomBy 2:00 AM, the hotel suite had been transformed into a high-security tactical command center.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operatives stood guard. Inside, my three daughters—Piper, Clara, and Nora—were sound asleep together in a grand king-sized bed, their arms entwined, sleeping peacefully under the watchful eye of Dr. Rebecca Hayes.
In the adjacent executive conference room, I sat at the head of a dark mahogany table. Beside me stood Bridget Colton, senior managing partner of Colton & Vance International and my chief legal counsel, alongside two federal forensic auditors.
Bridget opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and medical files flat onto the granite table toward me.
"Nathaniel, my dear," Bridget spoke softly, her sharp blue eyes holding profound professional fury. "The truth about what happened at Saint Jude's Hospital five years ago is far worse than simple baby trafficking."
"Tell me, Bridget," I commanded flatly, sipping a glass of untouched bourbon.
Bridget tapped the digital ledgers:
THE FORGED MEDICAL RECORDS: Forensic analysis proving Dr. Adrian Vale was paid $5 million via offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands registered to Vanessa Moretti-Blake—the sister of rival syndicate boss Victor Moretti.
THE STOLEN HERITAGE TRUST: Proof that Vanessa Moretti used the forged death certificates of Clara and Nora to suppress Caroline’s $140 million Maritime Land Trust, funneling the assets into shell companies under her private proxy.
THE POISONING OF CAROLINE: Post-mortem toxicology reviews revealing Caroline didn't die of a natural embolism. She was systematically administered synthetic hormone blockers during labor to induce cardiac failure, ensuring she could never reveal the birth of the triplets.
A low, terrifying growl ripped from my chest, vibrating the heavy crystal glass on the table until it shattered flat in my hand.
Bourbon and blood dripped onto the white tablecloth.
"They murdered my wife," I whispered, every word falling like an iron block into the silent room. "They murdered Caroline, stole my newborn babies, and spent five years trying to starve them on the street so they wouldn't claim their grandfather's trust."
"Vanessa abandoned the twins in front of your hotel tonight because federal auditors froze her Cayman accounts forty-eight hours ago," Bridget explained grimly. "She realized the girls were a liability. She intended for them to freeze to death before morning so the paper trail would end permanently."
I stood up slowly, wiping the blood from my knuckles with a linen napkin.
"Where is Vanessa Moretti tonight, Marcus?" I asked, looking toward my security chief.
"She's attending the annual Philadelphia Heritage Gala at the Bellevue Hotel, Boss," Marcus revealed, his dark eyes burning with lethal resolve. "She's celebrating her proposed $900 million merger with the Moretti Syndicate."

I pulled my charcoal bespoke suit jacket over my broad shoulders, adjusting my platinum cufflinks.
"Inform the capos," I ordered smoothly, my baritone carrying a cold, weightless authority. "Tonight, the Brooks family attends the gala."
