Chapter 7 - The Dawn of a New Sterling LegacySix months later, the sun over Boston was bright, warm, and entirely unburdened by the shadows of the past.

Inside the pediatric recovery suite at Boston Children’s Hospital, the heart-monitor machine hummed with a steady, reassuring rhythm. The neurosurgical ablation had been a complete, unreserved success, and Dr. Harrison had confirmed that Leo’s focal cortical dysplasia was entirely corrected, paving the way for a completely healthy, seizure-free childhood.
In the center of the sunlit room, four-year-old Leo was sitting up in his hospital bed, happily building a towering fortress out of plastic blocks with his twin sisters cheering him on from the bedside chairs.
By the window, looking out over the bustling harbor, stood Ryan and Grace.
Grace wore a simple white linen dress, looking radiant and completely at peace. Ryan stood behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.
“Boston is nice,” Grace murmured, leaning back against his chest. “Though I think the traffic is almost as bad as Chicago.”
“We can stay as long as you like,” Ryan whispered, kissing the side of her neck. “Or we can move to Paris. Or we can renovate the Oak Lawn cottage until it’s a castle. Whatever you and the kids want.”
Grace smiled, turning around in his arms to face him. She reached up, gently tracing the sharp line of his jaw. “We don’t need a castle, Ryan. We just need to be together.”
Ryan smiled—a real, genuine, unreserved smile that completely transformed his face. He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out the small velvet ring box he had carried through the storm on Michigan Avenue six months ago, and clicked it open.
The canary diamond caught the New England sunlight, sparkling with brilliant, unblemished fire.
“I never got to finish what I started that afternoon in the rain,” Ryan murmured, his voice dropping into a low, tender register. “Grace Vance... will you marry me? Again. For real this time.”
Grace laughed, tears of joy shining in her dark eyes, as she slipped her hand into his.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, absolutely.”
Ryan slid the ring onto her finger, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss that tasted of victory, redemption, and forever.

Across the room, little Leo looked up from his block tower, tilted his head with that familiar, stubborn little smirk, and shook his rattle at his parents, while Ivy and Noah burst into giggles.
The empire Ryan Sterling had spent his life building wasn't made of stocks, glass towers, or corporate accounts. It was standing right here in this room, wrapped in love, healing, and an unbroken family that no storm could ever wash away.
