Chapter 6 - The Confession of a Fallen KingThe private elevator doors slid open, and Daniel stepped into the suite.

He looked unraveled. The immaculate charcoal suit was wrinkled, his tie was gone, and his hair was disheveled. The aura of absolute invincibility that had defined him for a decade had completely evaporated, replaced by the desperate, hunted look of a man who had lost everything.

He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me standing by the window, framed against the glowing Manhattan skyline.

"Claire," he breathed, his voice cracking slightly. He took a step forward, but the two security guards immediately stepped into his path, their hands resting near their waistbands.

"Stand down," I said softly. The guards stepped back, blending into the shadows of the expansive suite.

Daniel looked around the luxurious room, then back at me. "You did this. Every single piece of it—the federal freezes, the board coup, the French authorities seizing Marseille. You engineered the entire thing."

"You invited another woman into my home, Daniel," I replied, my voice calm, almost conversational. "You thought eleven years of loyalty could be discarded for a temporary distraction and a corporate alliance. You forgot rule number one of the underworld: never underestimate the person who writes your contracts."

Daniel clenched his jaw, taking a slow, cautious step closer. "It was a mistake. I was pressured by my mother, by the board, by the expansion in Europe! Vanessa meant nothing to me! I sent her packing an hour ago—she’s gone, Claire. I threw her out on the street with nothing."

"I know," I said, stepping away from the window and walking slowly toward him. "I watched it on the security feed. It was quite poetic, really."

Daniel stared at me, his eyes searching my face for any sign of the woman he used to command. What he found instead was an absolute stranger—composed, freezing, and entirely lethal.

"Please," Daniel whispered, the proud billionaire finally dropping to his knees, his hands resting on the carpet before me. "Take everything. Take the ships, the properties, the accounts. Take the whole empire. Just... don't let them put me away. Testify for me, Claire. Tell the prosecutors it was all a misunderstanding. We can leave New York. We can start over anywhere you want."

I looked down at the man who had once ruled the city behind locked doors, the man who thought fear was enough to keep a woman chained to his side.

I reached out, gently placing my hand under his chin, forcing him to look up at me.

"Daniel," I whispered, my voice as cold as winter ice. "An empire isn't given away. It's conquered. And you have nothing left to trade."

I stepped back, signaling to the security guards.

"Take him out," I ordered.

As the guards pulled Daniel to his feet, dragging him backward toward the elevator as he shouted my name in desperate agony, I turned back to the window. The city was waiting. And my new life was just beginning.
