Chapter 5 - The Fall of the TitanTwo weeks after the Madrid confrontation, Julian finally managed to secure emergency consular clearance to return to New York—not as a triumphant CEO returning from an international acquisition trip, but as a disgraced, broke corporate pariah facing criminal indictment.

He didn't come back to our Long Island estate. The smart locks on the front door had been re-coded under my direct orders, and his designer suits had been packed into heavy cardboard storage boxes and left sitting curbside with a neon yellow notice from the sheriff’s department.
Instead, he cornered me in the underground parking garage of Mercer Global Tower on a rainy Tuesday evening.
I had just stepped out of my town car when a familiar, disheveled figure lunged out from behind a concrete pillar.
“Claire!”
Julian looked like a ghost of the man he used to be. His expensive tailored suit was wrinkled and stained at the cuffs, his hair uncombed, dark violet shadows bruising the skin beneath his hollow eyes. He reached out a trembling hand, trying to block my path toward the private elevator lobby.
I didn't flinch. I simply stopped, resting my briefcase against my thigh, and looked at him with icy indifference.
“Get away from me, Julian,” I said, my voice cutting through the damp echo of the garage. “Or I’ll have the security detail down here in five seconds to drag you off the property.”
“Claire, please—you have to listen to me!” he sobbed, his voice cracking desperately. He dropped his hands to his sides, looking down at the concrete floor in utter defeat. “I lost everything. The board voted unanimously yesterday to strip me of my title, my shares, my pension... everything. The bank is foreclosing on my personal accounts. I’m facing federal wire fraud charges. I’m ruined.”
“You ruined yourself, Julian,” I replied, stepping closer, letting him look directly into my eyes. “You built a life on lies, theft, and arrogance. You thought you could cheat on your wife, steal from your own company, and leave me with nothing while you played the master of the universe.”
“It was a mistake!” he cried out, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. “Chloe meant nothing! It was just a stupid distraction! I still love you, Claire! We built this company together—you can’t just throw me out like trash!”
I let out a cold, sharp laugh.
“We did build this company together, Julian. But the difference between you and me is that I actually knew how the foundation was laid. You were just a tenant living in a house I built with my own hands.”
I stepped past him, my heels clicking sharply against the concrete floor as I headed toward the private elevator bank.

“Good luck with your public defender, Julian,” I called back over my shoulder without breaking my stride. “You’re going to need him.”
Behind me, I heard him collapse against the concrete pillar, sobbing into his hands as the heavy steel elevator doors slid shut, sealing him out of my world forever.
