Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Chicago Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, shipping directors, municipal judges, and syndicate capos gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Midwest Logistics & Cultural Assembly.

Sitting near the head of the raised executive table, wearing an ivory designer suit, holding a gold pen, was twenty-six-year-old Olivia Hayes. Beside her sat her corrupt father, Arthur Hayes, smirking as they prepared to sign corporate takeover documents to absorb the Moretti shipping berths.

"Gentlemen!" Arthur Hayes announced into the central microphone, his voice dripping with condescending arrogance, "today we ratify the administrative consolidation of the Moretti Logistics Berths under the joint proxy of Hayes Global—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.

Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Vincent Moretti.

He wore an immaculate charcoal bespoke suit, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside him, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hand resting gently over her pregnant belly, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Emily Carter Moretti.

Around her neck hung the fifty-carat emerald signet pendant of the Moretti Family Dynasty, her posture regal, her presence dominating the entire room.

Olivia Hayes dropped her gold pen.

CRASH!

The heavy metal pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Arthur Hayes stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the window.

"O-OLIVIA...?! VINCENT?! EMILY?!" Arthur stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the stage. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS JUST AN UNKNOWN ASSISTANT!"

"She isn't an assistant, Arthur," Vincent Moretti announced flatly, his deep, clear baritone carrying cleanly across the silent hall, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Moretti Heritage Trust... my legal wife, and the sole owner of your entire logistics network."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Arthur Hayes’s trembling hands:

TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Moretti Trust Deeds, transferring 100% controlling equity directly to Chairwoman Emily Carter Moretti.

ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Arthur Hayes and Olivia Hayes for Premeditated Wire Fraud, Extortion, Corporate Espionage, and $30 Million Tax Sabotage.

IMMEDIATE EVICTION & ASSET FREEZE: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Hayes Global.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Olivia shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "VINCENT, YOU LOVED ME FOR THREE YEARS! YOU TOOK OFF YOUR WEDDING RING FOR ME LAST NIGHT!"

"I took off my ring because I was a fool who momentarily forgot that my wife is the only woman who ever gave my life a soul," Vincent corrected deadpan, stepping beside me, wrapping his broad, warm arm securely around my waist, pulling my frame flush against his solid side. "And today, my Donna tears your world to ash."

Arthur Hayes and Olivia Hayes thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals locked heavy steel cuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them out of the Chicago Financial Center in total, public disgrace, while television news cameras captured their complete downfall for the morning news.
