Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeBrandon bowed his head, taking a slow, deep breath, before looking back up at my daughter.

"Can I... can I play the music box for her?" Brandon asked softly, his eyes filled with a humble, quiet hope.

I looked at Emma, then looked back at Brandon, offering a soft, reassuring nod.

"You can sit on the porch bench, Brandon," I invited gently.

Brandon dropped onto his knees flat on the wooden deckboards beside the bench, carefully winding the small silver key on the bottom of the gold box.

CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.

The soft, tinkling melody of an old lullaby floated through the quiet evening air, filling the porch with a gentle, timeless sweetness.

Emma giggled, turning her head toward the sound, reaching her small fingers out toward the shining silver metal.

Brandon let out a long, shuddering exhale, a single tear spilling over his lash as he let her tiny fingers brush against his hand for the very first time.

"She's perfect, Jessica..." Brandon wept softly into his hand. "She's absolute perfection."

"Yes, she is," I smiled back, sitting beside him on the wooden bench, holding my daughter safe under the vast, open sky.

There were no offshore lies hidden in dark accounts. There were no fake promises spoken in cold penthouses. There were no tears swallowed in quiet rooms.

The quiet, humiliated victim was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her victory.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, holding my daughter tight against my beating heart, surrounded by true friends and an unbroken future, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
