Chapter 6 - The Promise on the TerraceOn a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late May, a brilliant spring sun painted the sky over the Long Island estate in breathtaking shades of gold, rose, and deep sapphire.

The dark, suffocating nightmare of Dean Russo, the cold marble floorboards, and the brass fireplace poker was permanently, historically erased from my life.

Over three hundred prominent corporate leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, Marco, Tariq, and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the vast oceanfront terrace for an official family and foundation celebration.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing an exquisite, floor-length ivory silk gown designed to celebrate every line of my figure. My dark brown hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my pale blue eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.

Down on my left hand rested a simple, flawless six-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring set beside the Moretti family signet band.

Adrian Moretti walked out onto the terrace wearing an immaculate black tuxedo. At six-foot-two, his broad posture was tall, sovereign, and handsome, his storm-gray eyes shining with pure, eternal joy as he looked at me.

He stepped up behind me near the balustrade, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid chest.

He pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple, his deep baritone carrying a rich, velvet warmth.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Adrian whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of the Long Island Sound stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, leaning my head comfortably back against his broad shoulder, placing my hands over his broad fingers.

"I was thinking about three-seventeen A.M. three months ago," I answered softly, turning in his arms to look up into his carved face. "When a cold Don opened his door and found a housekeeper sleeping on the marble floor with an old blanket."

Adrian offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his severe, handsome face.

"You weren't just a housekeeper sleeping on marble, Claire," Adrian promised, leaning down to press his lips softly, fiercely against mine in a deep, unhurried kiss. "You were my angel."

Marco raised his champagne glass from the primary table, his deep voice carrying cleanly across the quiet grounds.

"To Don Adrian and Donna Claire Moretti!" Marco toasted with deep, genuine pride. "The sovereign leaders who built an empire of honor out of unbroken strength, truth, and eternal love!"

"To Adrian and Claire!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
