Chapter 3 - The Trap at the PierOver the next seventy-two hours, the atmosphere inside the Moretti estate shifted into a quiet, high-stakes game of international chess.

Under Adrian’s personal direction, I remained inside his private wing during the day, protected by two elite bodyguards—Marco and Tariq—who reported directly to Adrian and owed zero allegiance to the secondary house security.

Dean Russo remained completely oblivious to the fact that his treason had been exposed.

He walked through the halls with his usual arrogant smirk, believing I was hiding in the servants' quarters, completely unaware that every text message, encrypted call, and secondary security bypass he executed was being mirrored directly to Adrian’s encrypted terminal.

By Thursday night at 11:00 PM, the storm returned to the coast, lashing the Brooklyn piers with heavy rain and freezing sea mist.

Inside the secondary warehouse at Pier 42—a sprawling steel facility where sixty million dollars in high-end pharmaceutical and maritime shipments were stored—Dean Russo stood near a row of heavy shipping containers.

Beside him stood Victor Vance—the forty-five-year-old leader of the rival Vance Syndicate—surrounded by twelve armed mercenaries carrying automatic submachine guns.

"Is the primary security feed at the estate killed, Dean?" Victor asked, his voice slick with cold, greedy ambition as he adjusted his leather gloves.

"Killed five minutes ago, Vance," Dean grinned arrogantly, tossing a small silver flask of poisoned cognac into his hand. "Adrian’s private nightcap is laced. By two o'clock tomorrow morning, the doctors will declare he suffered an acute cardiac arrest. You take the Brooklyn piers, and I take the estate security contract."

"You're a brilliant rat, Dean," Victor laughed softly, slapping Dean on the shoulder. "A true visionary."

BOOM!

The heavy steel roll-up doors at both ends of the warehouse didn't just open—they were blown inward by hydraulic breaching charges, sending sharp metal splinters and smoke billowing through the facility.

High-powered tactical floodlights illuminated the wet concrete floor, blinding the twelve Vance mercenaries.

"FEDERAL SECURITY AND MORETTI SPECIAL OPERATORS! DON'T MOVE!" a thunderous voice echoed through the master speakers.
