Chapter 7 - The Light in the TombOne year later, on a warm, golden afternoon in late spring, the grand oceanfront terrace of the Vance estate was filled with light, music, and laughter.

A small, private wedding gathering of fifty close friends, security staff, and trusted associates sat in simple white wooden chairs set up along the stone patio overlooking the dark, peaceful waters of Lake Michigan.

I sat in my custom wheelchair near a white floral arch made of roses and white orchids, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, my dark hair neatly styled, my heart beating with an intense, weightless joy.

Beside me stood Luke, wearing a fresh suit, holding two small gold velvet bands.

The soft violin music shifted into a breathtaking, flowing melody.

The heavy glass doors of the terrace swung open.

Emma walked out onto the stone patio.

She wore a breathtaking, simple ivory lace gown that caught the afternoon sunlight like liquid silver. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves with fresh jasmine flowers, and her eyes shone with tears of pure, unbroken happiness.

Walking beside her, holding her hand proudly, was her mother—healthy, radiant, and smiling warmly under the bright spring sky.

When Emma reached the arch, she stepped forward, dropping to her knees beside my wheelchair, taking both of my broad hands into hers, wrapping her small fingers tightly around mine.

"Do you, Daniel Vance, take Emma Carter to be your lawful wedded wife, to love, honor, and protect her for all the days of your life?" the minister asked warmly.

I looked deep into Emma's dark eyes, my broad palms wrapping around her fingers with absolute, eternal devotion.

"I do," I swore softly, my baritone ringing clearly across the quiet lake.

"And do you, Emma Carter, take Daniel Vance to be your lawful wedded husband?"

"I do," Emma whispered, her heart bursting with a joy so vast it filled the entire sky.

"By the authority vested in me," the minister smiled, "I now pronounce you husband and wife."

I reached out my arms, pulling Emma down into my embrace, kissing her with a deep, sweet, consuming passion that sealed our lives together under the open sky, while our friends erupted into a loud, joyous round of applause.

Down on my left hand, a simple gold wedding band caught the bright spring sunlight, gleaming with an unbroken, beautiful light that would last a lifetime.

Outside the grand iron gates of the estate, the city of Chicago continued to spin, but sitting on the sunlit terrace, wrapped in the arms of the woman who had brought my soul back from the dead, I knew that the tomb was gone forever—our home, our peace, and our lives were finally, beautifully, and forever our own.
