Chapter 6 - The Unbroken DawnBy 6:00 AM, the rain over Chicago had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, sunlit autumn morning over the lake.

Marco Moretti and his surviving men were taken into custody by federal marshals, their entire underground logistics network seized and liquidated under corporate court orders drafted by my legal team overnight.

The Moretti syndicate was erased from Chicago in less than twelve hours.

Inside the sunlit library of the estate, the heavy glass windows were open, letting in the cool, fresh lake breeze.

I sat in my wheelchair near the hearth, wearing a simple white linen shirt and trousers, working on a tablet, reviewing charitable foundation deeds.

Emma walked into the library wearing an elegant cream knit sweater and dark jeans, holding two steaming mugs of hot tea.

She set one cup on my side table, sitting down comfortably on the leather ottoman beside my chair.

"How are the foundation deeds looking, Mr. Vance?" she asked softly, a warm, radiant smile touching her lips.

"They look perfect, Emma," I smiled back, setting my tablet down, reaching out my broad hand to gently cover her small, warm palm. "The Carter Memory Care Facility in Evanston is fully funded for the next thirty years. Your mother moves into her private suite on Monday."

Emma looked down at our hands—at her delicate fingers interlaced with my calloused palm—tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welling in her dark eyes, spilling softly down her radiant cheeks.

"Danny..." she whispered, using my first name for the very first time. "I don't know how to thank you."

"You don't need to thank me, Emma," I murmured, leaning down until my face was inches from hers, looking deep into her clear, beautiful eyes. "You walked into this tomb three months ago, looked at a man everyone called a monster, and gave him back his soul."

I pulled a small velvet box from my coat pocket and opened it gently under the warm morning light.

Inside rested a simple, breathtaking three-carat flawless diamond ring—a promise carved in liquid silver and light.

"Stay with me, Emma," I swore softly under the open sky. "Not as my assistant. As my wife."

Emma looked at the glittering ring, then looked up into my gray eyes—eyes that held no dark shadows of fury, no cold distance, but a deep, eternal love that filled every corner of our home.

"Yes, Danny," she whispered against my lips. "Yes."
