Chapter 4 - The Fall of the Corrupt SyndicateWhile Catherine Miller and her five eldest daughters were being processed at the federal precinct, Special Forces tactical units executed simultaneous search warrants on Detective Thomas Ward’s home and the regional precinct headquarters.

The precinct commander—who had accepted $1.5 million in bribes over three years from Catherine Miller to suppress evidence—was stripped of his badge in front of his entire department.

Inside Detective Ward’s private residence, federal sweepers recovered the original blood-stained iron framing hammer used in the attack on Rosalie, hidden inside a sealed plastic box beneath his garage floorboards.

"Detective Thomas Ward!" Marshal Vance declared, slamming the arrest warrant flat onto Ward's kitchen counter. "You are under arrest for Obstruction of Justice, Evidence Tampering, and Accessory to Attempted Murder!"

Ward collapsed flat onto his knees on the tile floor, weeping pathetic, groveling tears as officers locked steel handcuffs around his wrists.

"IT WAS CATHERINE!" Ward shrieked, reaching his hands out toward the marshals. "SHE PAID ME TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS TO PLANT THE BURGLARY STORY! DON'T PUT ME IN GENERAL POPULATION!"

"You should have thought about general population before you covered up thirty fractures on a soldier's wife," Marshal Vance answered with ice cold finality.
