Chapter 6 - The Corporate Trap

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Carter Tower was a sea of grim, tense faces. When Ryan pushed open the double doors and strode inside, followed closely by a security detail, the murmurs around the mahogany table died instantly.
Marcus Vance sat near the head of the table, wearing an expression of theatrical distress, while several senior board members whispered anxiously among themselves.
"Ryan! Thank God you're here," Marcus exclaimed, standing up quickly. "It's a complete disaster. Federal investigators showed up an hour ago with a warrant. They traced over twenty million dollars in embezzlement and fraudulent real estate acquisitions to a shell company registered under your executive signature!"
Ryan walked slowly to the head of the table, his expression completely unreadable. He placed his hands flat on the mahogany surface and looked around the room, meeting every nervous gaze.
"My signature?" Ryan asked calmly.
"Yes! Look at the wire logs!" Marcus urged, sliding a thick binder across the table. "Everything points directly to your private accounts. The board has no choice, Ryan. To protect the company from federal indictment, we have to invoke the emergency leadership clause. You need to step down as CEO immediately, and transfer voting rights to the executive committee while the audit proceeds."
A murmur of agreement rippled through the board members. It was a brilliantly executed coup—a trap designed to oust Ryan permanently while Marcus and his co-conspirators walked away with the keys to the entire empire.
Ryan didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. Instead, a cold, dangerous smile touched the corners of his lips.
"You've been very busy, Marcus," Ryan said softly, his voice cutting through the tension like a razor blade.
Marcus frowned, his forced anxiety faltering for a split second. "What are you talking about? I'm trying to save your skin!"
"Are you?" Ryan asked. He reached into his suit jacket, pulled out a sleek flash drive, and tossed it onto the table. It slid across the wood and stopped right in front of Marcus's trembling hands. "That drive contains the complete forensic audit of every subsidiary account, shell corporation, and unauthorized wire transfer executed over the last thirty-six months. Including the ones routed through Vantage Point Consulting and dummy LLCs registered in the Cayman Islands under your mother’s maiden name."
The color drained entirely from Marcus’s face. He stumbled backward, knocking his leather chair against the wall. "That's... that's impossible! You haven't looked at corporate financials in years!"
"I haven't," Ryan agreed smoothly, standing tall and imposing. "But when you spend three years hiding in the dark, you eventually learn how to spot the shadows. I discovered your little embezzlement scheme two weeks ago, Marcus. I just wanted to wait until you tried to pull the trigger so I could catch you with your finger on the smoking gun."
The federal audit team stepped out from the adjoining private office, flanked by two federal marshals holding shiny steel handcuffs.

"Marcus Vance," the lead federal investigator announced, stepping up to the terrified executive. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, embezzlement, and corporate conspiracy."
As Marcus was handcuffed and dragged screaming from the boardroom, the remaining board members sat in stunned, terrified silence. Ryan adjusted his cuffs, turned his back on the wreckage of the corporate coup, and walked out of the room. He had won the war, but his mind wasn't on the boardroom anymore. It was back in Highland Park, waiting for him at home.
