Chapter 4 - The Unraveling of Olivia HayesWhile Daniel was being stripped of his career, his status, and his frozen assets, the house of cards he had built for Olivia Hayes began to collapse with equal, merciless speed.

It was a rainy Thursday evening when private investigator Marcus Vance—a veteran operative hired by my legal team—slid a manila folder across the table in my attorney's office.
"Olivia Hayes isn't the stranded, helpless victim she pretended to be when she called Daniel from Logan Airport," Marcus said, leaning back in his chair with a satisfied smirk.
I opened the folder, scanning photographs, lease agreements, and bank statements. "Explain."
"She didn't move back from London because her life fell apart," Marcus continued, tapping a finger on a printed financial ledger. "She fled London because her previous fiancé—a British hedge fund manager—filed criminal fraud charges against her after she systematically drained his personal accounts and transferred the funds to offshore accounts in the Isle of Man."
My eyebrows arched. "Fraud charges?"
"Extensive ones," Marcus nodded. "She tracked Daniel down through LinkedIn six months ago, knowing he was married, wealthy, and easily manipulated by his old college nostalgia. She engineered her 'accidental' arrival in Boston down to the exact flight schedule, knowing Daniel would drop everything to play the white knight."
Rachel Foster crossed her arms, shaking her head. "And Daniel was stupid enough to fund her luxury hotel stays, her shopping sprees, and her legal retainer using marital assets."
"Worse than that," Marcus added, sliding a final piece of paper across the table. "Look at this property deed. The Back Bay condo Daniel supposedly 'owned'? It was encumbered by a massive second mortgage he took out three weeks ago—without your knowledge or consent—to purchase a luxury BMW for Olivia under a corporate pseudonym."
A cold, sharp anger flared in my chest. Not sadness. Not grief. Pure, unadulterated clarity.
"She thought she could waltz into my life, take my husband’s attention during the most vulnerable moment of my existence, and live like a queen off my family’s wealth," I said quietly, closing the folder with a decisive snap. "She picked the wrong family."
"What's your next move, Emma?" Rachel asked, watching me closely.
"We don't just file for divorce," I replied, a cold smile touching my lips. "We file criminal joinder motions attaching Olivia as a co-conspirator in the grand larceny and asset concealment charges. If she wants to play games in Boston, let her do it from behind bars."
Within forty-eight hours, the federal net closed in.
Federal marshals, accompanied by local Boston police, raided the luxury Back Bay apartment where Olivia and Daniel had been hoarding stolen assets. Neighbors watched in stunned silence as Olivia—wrapped in a designer silk robe and screaming hysterically about her constitutional rights—was escorted out in handcuffs, pushed into the back of a black-and-white cruiser, and hauled downtown to the Suffolk County House of Correction.
Daniel, now living out of a cheap, rundown motel near Logan Airport with his frozen credit cards and zero legal defense funds, discovered the news when he saw Olivia’s mugshot splashed across the evening news broadcast.

His phone call to my private cell went straight to voicemail.
I listened to his desperate, sobbing message once, deleted it without a second thought, and blocked his number forever.
