Chapter 7 - Sovereign in the LightSix months later, the golden autumn sun broke warmly over the soaring cliffside terraces of our Positano estate.

The Calabrian conflict had ended with absolute, swift finality. Stripped of his shipping proxies and blacklisted by international banking clearinghouses, Don Romano retired permanently to a small village in Sicily, his territory fully absorbed into the Orlov network.

Inside the grand ballroom of the villa, a private, high-stakes celebration was taking place under the twinkling crystal chandeliers.

Over one hundred international partners, diplomats, corporate directors, and family captains gathered around long, white-linen tables set up along the balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

I stood near the glass balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk gown that caught the sunlight like liquid gold. Around my neck rested a delicate, flawless solitaire diamond necklace—a gift from Marius to mark our official engagement.

Down on my left hand rested a seven-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond ring set in platinum.

Marius stepped up behind me, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder.

"What are you thinking about, moya dusha?" he whispered softly into my ear, his breath warm against my neck.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue expanse of the Mediterranean Sea, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"I was thinking about the night in your study six months ago," I answered softly, turning my head to press a sweet kiss against his cheek. "When you told me I had a date."

Marius let out a low, genuine laugh that vibrated against my back, his gray eyes shining with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

"It was the worst date of your life," Marius teased softly.

"It was," I agreed with a radiant smile. "Because it brought me home to you."

Dimitri stepped up onto the primary terrace stage, raising his champagne glass toward the night sky, his deep baritone carrying clear and warm across the quiet lawn.

"A toast!" Dimitri announced cleanly. "To Don Marius and Donna Elena! The sovereign leaders who rule our network with unbroken strength, light, and love!"

"To Marius and Elena!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, one hundred glasses clinking together in the golden sunlight.

Marius raised his glass, taking a slow sip of fine wine, pulling me tight against his chest under the vast, open sky.

There were no secret date calls. There were no silent longings across mahogany desks. There were no shadows left unsaid.

The quiet, secret assistant was gone forever. The sovereign matriarch had taken her throne.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved me, holding my head high, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
