Chapter 4 - The Fortress in PositanoThe cliffside villa in Positano was a fortress of dark stone, glass, and iron, overlooking the vast, black expanse of the Mediterranean Sea.

Rain hammered against the high arched windows of the master suite as Marius pushed open the heavy oak doors, guiding me inside. The room was illuminated only by the soft, flickering light of the marble fireplace in the corner.

I stepped onto the soft Persian rug, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs as the heavy doors clicked shut behind us, sealing us away from the rest of the world.

Marius removed his dark coat, tossing it casually onto a chair, before turning his full attention onto me. Without his coat, the broad expanse of his chest and shoulders was intimidatingly clear under his dark silk shirt.

"You're shivering," he said softly, walking over to the fireplace, tossing a fresh log onto the embers until the flames roared to life.

"I'm not cold," I replied, standing my ground near the center of the room.

Marius turned, his gray eyes locking onto mine with a dark, unyielding intensity that made my skin flush with heat.

"Then you're afraid," he murmured, taking slow, deliberate steps toward me.

"I'm not afraid of you, Marius," I stated cleanly, holding his gaze. "I've never been afraid of you."

A faint, breathtaking smile touched the corner of his lips—a look of pure, unadulterated admiration that took my breath away.

"I know," Marius whispered, stopping only inches from my body. He reached out, his long fingers gently untying the belt of my rain-dampened trench coat, sliding the heavy fabric off my shoulders, letting it fall onto the floorboards. "That is why you are the only person in this world who truly holds power over me."

My breath caught in my throat. "Marius... if we do this... if we cross this line... there is no going back to how things were. I won't be just your assistant anymore."

"Good," Marius declared, his voice smooth, dark, and absolute. "Because I never wanted an assistant, Elena. I wanted a queen."

He reached out, his broad hands coming up to frame my face, his warm thumbs stroking my cheekbones with agonizing tenderness before he pulled my lips up to his.

The kiss was not gentle. It was a fierce, consuming explosion of three years of restrained passion, unspoken desires, and fierce protection. I let out a soft gasp, my hands flying up to wrap around his neck, my fingers burying into his dark, thick hair as he pulled my body flush against his hard, warm frame.

Marius groaned into my mouth, his possessive grip around my waist lifting me effortlessly off my feet, carrying me toward the grand canopy bed as the storm raged outside the cliffside windows.
