Chapter 6 - The Ambush at Neutral GroundThe neutral ground chosen for the Calabria negotiations was an ancient, stone-built olive mill nestled deep in the hills above Sorrento, surrounded by sprawling groves and steep cliffs overlooking the bay.

At 11:00 AM sharply, four black armored SUVs pulled onto the gravel courtyard.
Marius stepped out of the lead vehicle wearing a dark tailored suit, his posture royal, commanding, and absolute. Walking beside him, wearing an elegant ivory wool coat and trousers, holding an encrypted communications tablet, was me.
Flanking us were Dimitri and twelve heavily armed Orlov operators, their eyes constantly scanning the tree line and the high stone walls of the mill.
Sitting near an outdoor stone table under the shade of an ancient olive tree was Don Romano—a heavy-set, silver-haired man in his sixties, flanked by eight stern-faced Calabrian bodyguards.
Romano didn't stand up. He took a slow sip of his espresso, his sharp eyes flicking from Marius to me, a cruel, mocking smile touching his weathered lips.
"Marius," Romano greeted in heavy Italian dialect. "I see you brought your pretty secretary with you to the hills. I heard a rumor that Marco Santini left Naples in a hurry three nights ago because of her."
Marius walked calmly to the table, taking his seat across from Romano, while I stood directly at his right shoulder, my hands steady on my tablet.
"Marco Santini overstepped his bounds, Romano," Marius stated cleanly, his baritone dropping like an iron weight into the quiet clearing. "He tried to touch what belongs to me. You know the price for that."
Romano’s smile twitched slightly, his eyes narrowing into dark slits. "You shouldn't have exiled him, Marius. Marco was my nephew."
Dimitri’s hand moved instantly toward his jacket.
Before anyone could react, four armed men stepped out from the upper stone balcony of the old mill, raising submachine guns toward our table.
"You thought this was a negotiation, Marius?!" Romano spat, standing up slowly from his chair. "You came into my territory! You took my nephew's leverage! Now you sign the shipping terminal proxies over to me, or your pretty assistant dies first!"
I didn't scream. I didn't step back. I stood tall at Marius's shoulder, my fingers quietly tapping a pre-programmed emergency key on my satellite tablet.
Marius didn't flinch. He didn't even turn his head toward the armed men on the balcony. He simply reached into his jacket, pulled out a silver cigarette case, and extracted a single cigarette.
"You always were an idiot, Romano," Marius said softly.
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion detonated from the ridge behind the olive grove, as thirty elite Orlov operators, led by a secondary tactical team, breached the perimeter walls.
Suppressed rounds cut through the air with surgical, terrifying precision. The four gunmen on the balcony collapsed instantly, their weapons clattering onto the stone tiles.
Dimitri moved with lethal speed, drawing his sidearm and driving Don Romano flat against the stone table, pinning his neck under his heavy forearm.
Romano’s eight bodyguards dropped their weapons frantically, raising their hands high into the air as twenty laser dots from Marius's snipers lit up their chests.

Marius lit his cigarette calmly, drawing in a thin stream of smoke, looking down at the groveling, terrified Don.
"The contracts are signed on my terms now, Romano," Marius commanded cleanly. "And if I ever hear your voice in Naples again... I won't send my tactical team. I will come myself."
