Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 8:30 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the Chicago horizon, painting the sky in sweeping tapestries of indigo and gold, the private terrace was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

Desmond sat comfortably in a plush velvet armchair near the marble balustrade, while I sat gently on his lap, my head resting against his broad shoulder, my fingers interlaced with his.
Across the dark, sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan, brilliant bursts of gold, sapphire, and silver fireworks exploded into the night sky, illuminating the smiling faces of our guests gathered on the lawn below.
Desmond reached into his tuxedo vest pocket, pulling out a small velvet box, opening it flat before me.
Inside sat a delicate gold necklace holding a platinum pendant engraved with six words: FOREVER HEALED, MY SOVEREIGN CLARA VANCE.
Tears of pure, weightless joy welling in my eyes, I reached out, tracing my fingers over the engraved words, looking up into his dark, loving face.
"I had it crafted by the finest jeweler in Milan, Clara," Desmond revealed softly, his storm-blue eyes burning with an eternal, unshakeable devotion. "So that you will never forget the night you walked into my fortress and refused to clean up my whiskey."
I threw my arms around his neck, pulling his handsome face down to mine in a deep, passionate, unhurried kiss that sealed our hearts forever under the twinkling stars.
"I love you, Desmond," I whispered against his lips.
"I love you, Clara," Desmond swore back, his deep baritone carrying the weight of an absolute, unbroken covenant. "Forever and always."

My 1998 Honda Civic was dead and gone, but standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved every inch of my body and soul, holding my head high, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
