Chapter 7 - The MasterpieceThree days later, the rain finally cleared over Chicago, leaving the city skyline sparkling under a brilliant autumn sun.

The grand ballroom of our North Shore estate was filled with light, laughter, and the soft strains of a string quartet playing in the corner. The scandal of my dramatic departure and the subsequent dismantling of Viktor’s rogue syndicate had already become legendary whispering material among the elite families of the Outfit, but tonight, none of that mattered.
Tonight was simply a celebration.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the sprawling manicured gardens, wearing a sleek, floor-length gown of midnight-blue silk. Around my neck hung a brand-new necklace—a stunning, flawless diamond pendant designed and cut entirely by my own hands, resting against my skin like a drop of captured starlight.
"You look dangerous tonight, Signora," a deep, familiar voice murmured near my ear.
I smiled without turning around, feeling the warmth of Alessandro’s arms wrap securely around my waist from behind. He rested his chin gently on my shoulder, his gaze reflecting in the glass pane before us.
"I've always been dangerous, Alessandro," I replied softly, turning in his embrace to face him. "You just finally decided to give me the right tools."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it to reveal my wedding ring—completely cleaned of all blood, polished to a mirror shine, the platinum band gleaming under the chandelier light.
With infinite gentleness, Alessandro took my left hand and slid the ring back onto my ring finger where it belonged.
"I'm sorry I ever made you take it off," he said, his green eyes filled with a quiet, fierce devotion that words could never fully capture.
"You didn't make me take it off," I smiled, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "I gave it to Camila so she could find her way out. And in the end, it helped us cut away every single flaw in our lives."

Across the room, Camila was laughing, raising a glass of sparkling cider with Leah and Maso near the grand piano, looking lighter and happier than she had in years.
Alessandro pulled me closer against his chest, his hand resting possessively, yet tenderly, against my back. The past was behind us—cut, polished, and set in stone. And as we stepped together onto the dance floor, I knew that no matter what shadows tried to creep into our world, we were unbreakable.
