Chapter 3 - The Purge at the Metropolitan ClubAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany ballroom of the Metropolitan Club on Fifth Avenue was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent business magnates, syndicate leaders, city officials, and high-society reporters gathered for the annual Blackwood Enterprise Heritage Assembly.

Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark suit, his face gaunt, holding a gold-headed cane, was Arthur Blackwood. Beside him sat Senator Richard Vance and his daughter, Vanessa, who wore a flashy red designer dress, her manicured fingers tapping impatiently against her glass.

"Gentlemen," Arthur announced smoothly into the microphone, his voice dripping with aristocratic charm, "today we celebrate thirty years of Blackwood dominance over New York commercial shipping and real estate—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the ballroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four federal marshals, was Vincent Blackwood.

He wore an magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, his tall six-foot-three frame radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside Vincent, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark navy silk gown that clung to her athletic, graceful figure with queenly majesty, holding the original Riverside land titles openly against her chest, was me.

Vanessa dropped her glass. Her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.

"Y-YOU...?!" Vanessa shrieked, pointing a shaking finger at me. "WHAT IS THAT MAID DOING HERE?! VINCENT, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!"

"She isn't a maid, Vanessa," Vincent announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent ballroom, silencing four hundred people instantly. "She is Donna Emily Carter-Blackwood... sole owner of Blackwood Enterprise, and my wife."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Arthur Blackwood’s trembling hands:

TOTAL CORPORATE SEIZURE: Certified enforcement of the original Carter Titles, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity in Blackwood Enterprise directly to Emily Carter-Blackwood.

THE SENATORIAL INDICTMENT: Federal arrest warrants served on Senator Richard Vance for High-Level Wire Fraud, Arson Conspiracy, and Bribing Municipal Officials.

MURDER & ARSON WARRANTS: Federal arrest warrants served on Arthur Blackwood for First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Arson, and Systemic Extortion.

Arthur Blackwood fell flat onto his knees behind the table, his gold cane clattering against the floor, his breath coming in ragged, hysterical gasps.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Senator Vance screamed, thrashing as federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "I AM A UNITED STATES SENATOR!"

"You're a felon, Senator," Lead Marshal Miller declared coldly.

CLICK. CLICK.

Vanessa wept hysterical, pathetic tears as marshals served her with immediate civil asset forfeiture notices, evicting her from her luxury estate on the spot while news cameras captured their total, public disgrace for the afternoon news.

Arthur Blackwood thrashed against his cuffs, looking up at his son with frantic, groveling pleas: "Vincent! Please! I am your father! I built this for you!"

Vincent looked down at his father with an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.

"You built it on ash and blood, Father," Vincent answered softly, his voice cold as winter ice. "And now you can spend the rest of your life rotting in a cage."
