Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Ocean LightIn late September 2026, ten months after that terrible night in Chicago, the grand ballroom of the Portland Harbor Hotel in Maine was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Emily & Noah Carter Maternal Health & Integrity Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her tall, radiant figure, was Emily Carter.
Around her neck hung her original silver wedding band—restored and glowing—her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her dark eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.
Beside the stage stood ten-month-old Noah Carter, sitting happily in a high-backed velvet stroller, holding a plush gray stuffed bear, alongside Bridget Colton and Marcus Vance.
And standing three paces behind Emily, wearing a simple, dark bespoke suit, keeping his hands neatly folded, his face quiet with profound, humble pride, was me.
Emily stepped up to the microphone, her clear, silver baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, I gave birth to my son alone in a storm, believing my world had ended," Emily announced to the silent room, her eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable strength. "And on that night, I learned that a woman's true power isn't measured by the wealth of the man beside her... it is measured by her courage to protect her child, break the dark, and claim her true home."
Emily held her champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
