Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the soaring mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Moretti Tower on Michigan Avenue was packed to absolute capacity.

Over three hundred high-society real estate magnates, commercial shipping directors, municipal judges, and syndicate capos sat around a thirty-foot carved walnut table beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the emergency board meeting.
Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark bespoke suit, holding a silver pen, was Alexander Moretti. His face was carved from thunder and ice. The disastrous fallout from the memorial service the previous afternoon—where his mother had publicly slapped him across the face for bringing Sophia Reynolds in his jacket—had left him bruised, furious, and desperate to reassert control over his empire.
Beside him sat his chief legal counsel, nervously whispering audit numbers.
"Gentlemen," Alexander announced into the central microphone, his baritone echoing sharply across the vast room, "we are here to ratify the quarterly restructuring of Moretti Holdings. Despite recent... domestic distractions, my control over this enterprise remains absolute—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive boardroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of three hundred high-society executives vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was me.
I wore a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated my graceful, commanding figure. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory, inner peace, and diamond-hard power.
Behind me walked Bridget Colton, carrying the red-sealed court binders.
Alexander Moretti dropped his silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. He stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the wall.
"C-CLAIRE...?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" Alexander stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "THIS IS A PRIVATE CORPORATE BOARD MEETING! YOU HAVE NO SEAT ON THIS BOARD!"
"I don't need a seat on this board, Alexander," I announced flatly, my clear, silver baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "I own the building."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Alexander’s trembling hands:
CONTROLLING EQUITY SEIZURE: Certified federal enforcement of the Bennett-Moretti Restitution Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity in Moretti Holdings directly to Chairwoman Claire Bennett Moretti.
ASSET FREEZE & FORECLOSURE: Immediate freezing of all corporate and personal accounts held by Alexander Moretti, including the complete repossession of Reynolds & Co. for illegal embezzlement of company funds.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total revocation of Alexander's executive title, office space, and operational credentials across all Moretti properties.
"WHAT IS THIS?!" Alexander shrieked, thrashing as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs—not for criminal arrest yet, but to enforce the immediate civil lockout order. "YOU CAN'T DO THIS! I BUILT THIS EMPIRE!"
"You built it on my family's capital, Alexander," I corrected deadpan, walking right up to the head of the table, placing my hands flat on the mahogany surface, looking down at the man who had thought he could discard his wife with impunity. "And today, the bank is calling in the loan."
