Chapter 6 - Return to the Lion’s DenThe private jet touched down at Milan-Malpensa Airport under a warm spring sunset. Clara stepped off the ramp, her nine-month pregnant belly unmistakable beneath a flowing emerald dress. She didn't wear diamonds or designer silks; she wore the simple, elegant grace of a woman who owned her own destiny.

Waiting at the tarmac was not an army of armed guards, but a single black car. And beside it stood Vincenzo.

He looked different. The immaculate, untouchable mafia Don was gone. He wore a simple dark shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his hair slightly disheveled, lines of exhaustion and deep reflection etched around his eyes. When he saw Clara step down the stairs, his breath hitched. He froze, his hands trembling slightly at his sides, as if he were afraid that if he moved too fast, she would vanish like a mirage.

Clara walked toward him, her steps slow and deliberate. The guards stood fifty yards back, their heads bowed, respecting the sacred boundary Vincenzo had drawn.

Vincenzo stopped two feet away from her. He looked down at her swollen belly, his eyes swimming with a mixture of overwhelming adoration, unworthiness, and raw fear. He didn't reach out to touch her; he didn't dare.

"You came back," Vincenzo whispered, his voice thick and broken. "Clara... you came back."

"I didn't come back for you, Vincenzo," Clara said, her voice clear, steady, and echoing in the quiet evening air. "I came back for us."

Vincenzo’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. He dropped slowly to his knees right there on the tarmac, ignoring the stone beneath him. He pressed his forehead gently against her swollen belly, his shoulders shaking as he finally broke down, releasing months of silent agony.

"I am so sorry," he choked out against her dress, his voice raw. "I was blind. I was arrogant. I let the darkness of my world taint the only pure thing I ever touched. You didn't just walk away, Clara—you saved my soul. If you tell me to turn around and walk away right now, I will do it. But please... let me spend the rest of my life proving that I am worthy of the family I almost destroyed."

Clara looked down at the man kneeling before her—the most powerful man in Europe, completely humbled by love. She reached out, placing her warm hand gently on the back of his head, running her fingers through his hair.

"Get up, Vincenzo," she whispered softly. "Let's go home."
