Chapter 3 - The Gathering at the BoardroomBy 9:00 AM the following morning, the financial and social sectors of New York were locked in an unprecedented state of shock.

The cancellation of the Whitaker-Cartwright engagement had made front-page news across every major publication, while shares of Cartwright Global plummeted twelve percent in early morning trading following rumors of a corporate fallout.
Inside the grand mahogany boardroom on the seventieth floor of the Whitaker Global Headquarters on Wall Street, sixteen senior board members sat in tense, nervous silence.
At the head of the conference table sat my mother, Eleanor, flanked by Harrison Cartwright and three senior corporate litigators holding heavy legal binders.
"Julian has completely lost his sanity!" Harrison roared, slamming his fist onto the mahogany table. "He canceled the engagement at the venue! He threatened my company! Under the secondary shareholder agreements, the board has full authority to remove him as Chief Executive Officer!"
BOOM!
The double reinforced glass doors of the boardroom were thrown open with thunderous force.
The ambient chatter died instantly into a total, freezing silence.
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by my chief intelligence officer, Marco, and four broad-shouldered security operators, was me.
I wore an immaculate dark three-piece suit, my posture tall, broad, and unyielding.
And walking directly beside my right shoulder, her spine straight, her posture royal, wearing a tailored cream silk suit provided by my private stylist, her hazel eyes holding zero fear, was Mara.
Behind us walked four gentle private tutors accompanying six-year-old Milo, Mason, Max, and Micah, all four boys wearing matching navy blazers, their wide gray-blue eyes looking around the grand room with curious, intelligent wonder.
Eleanor jumped out of her executive chair, her face turning an ugly, mottled shade of paper-white as she stared at Mara and the four boys.
"Julian...!" Eleanor stammered, her voice cracking into a high, frantic squeak. "What... what is the meaning of bringing these people into a corporate board meeting?!"
"Read the room, Eleanor," I commanded flatly.
My baritone carried across the silent boardroom like a rolling wave of thunder, freezing the blood in Harrison Cartwright's veins.
I walked straight to the head of the table, holding out a chair for Mara, settling her down safely at my right hand, while my four sons sat comfortably at the adjacent conference table with their tutors.
Marco stepped forward, slamming a heavy leather binder flat onto the glass desk directly in front of Harrison Cartwright.
"As of eight o'clock this morning," Marco announced cleanly, "the Whitaker Trust has acquired fifty-two percent of the voting debt bonds for Cartwright Global."

Harrison’s jaw sagged open in total, speech-bound horror. "What... what did you say?!"
"Furthermore," Marco continued, "our cyber-forensics team extracted six hundred encrypted communications between Eleanor Whitaker and Harrison Cartwright dated October 2020—disclosing a coordinated campaign of extortion, witness intimidation, and corporate forgery against Miss Mara Vance."
