Chapter 5 - The Execution of JusticeRichard Vance tried to bolt toward the back service exit near the kitchen, but two broad-shouldered sheriff's deputies immediately stepped into his path, blocking his escape.

"Richard Vance, Patricia Vance, and Daniel Vance," Lead Sheriff Deputy Miller announced, pulling heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for Felony Grand Larceny, Systemic Wire Fraud, Identity Theft, and Forgery."
CLICK. CLICK.
The cold steel cuffs locked tightly around Richard’s wrists behind his back.
Patricia screamed hysterically, thrashing against the second deputy as the steel locked around her manicured wrists. "GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME! HALEY! TELL THEM TO STOP! WE'RE YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER!"
"You stopped being my parents the second you put a price tag on my life," I answered deadpan, turning my back on them.
Daniel thrashed wildly, weeping like a broken child as the deputies placed him in chains beside his father. "Haley! Please! I'll pay it back! I'll work for you! Don't let them take me to jail!"
The sixty elite guests watched in absolute, horrified fascination as Savannah's most prominent "successful family" was led out of the grand foyer in total, public disgrace.
Outside, news reporters—who had originally been invited to cover Daniel’s corporate award—were waiting by the circular driveway. Camera flashes illuminated Patricia’s tear-stained face, Richard’s slouched shoulders, and Daniel’s handcuffs as they were loaded into the back of police cruisers.
Within two hours, the headlines exploded across Georgia media outlets:
SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS: "Prominent Vance Family Arrested for $4.2 Million Embezzlement and Forgery Against Heiress Daughter."
ATLANTA BUSINESS JOURNAL: "Daniel Vance’s 'Entrepreneur of the Year' Award Revoked Following Felony Fraud Indictment."
Inside the grand mansion, Mr. Bennett and the domestic staff stood in the foyer, watching the police cruisers disappear down the long driveway.
Mr. Bennett walked over to me, holding a set of master keys on a silver tray.
"The property is secure, Miss Haley," Mr. Bennett spoke softly, bowing his head with deep respect. "What are your orders regarding their personal belongings?"

I looked around the grand marble foyer—the house I had built, the quiet sanctuary that had been infected by greed and deceit.
"Pack their clothes in plastic bags and leave them at the county jail," I commanded flatly. "And change every lock on this estate before sunrise."
