Chapter 4 - The Audit in the BallroomThe sixty high-society guests stared in total, speech-bound shock.

Richard thrashed his hands frantically, stepping forward in an attempt to assert his usual domineering authority. "Haley! Have you lost your mind?! You walk into our home, interrupting a high-profile corporate event—"
"This isn't your home, Richard," I interrupted flatly, my voice cutting through his bluff like a steel blade. "This property belongs to Vance Heritage Assets, a corporation in which you hold zero shares, zero equity, and zero authority."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, opening her leather binder, pulling out certified legal documents bound by bright red court seals.
"Mr. and Mrs. Vance," Bridget announced, her voice booming through the ballroom, "you are hereby served with an Emergency Judicial Order of Immediate Eviction, an Involuntary Asset Freeze, and a Master Subpoena for Felony Forgery."
Daniel jumped off the stage, his face contorted in frantic, spoiled rage. "What the hell are you talking about, Haley?! You gave us this house! You paid for my company!"
"I paid for your living expenses out of kindness, Daniel," I fired back, taking a slow, deliberate step toward him. "You stole two point four million dollars by forging my signature on a home equity loan against this estate. You embezzled one point eight million dollars from my grandmother’s educational trust to cover your illegal gambling debts in Atlanta."
A collective, horrified gasp swept through the sixty elite guests.
Local bank executives began backing away from Richard and Daniel, exchanging terrified, furious glances.
Marcus Vance pulled out his tablet, tapping a button that projected certified bank transfer records and high-definition notary logs directly onto the ballroom's large projection screen—the very screen that five minutes ago had been displaying photographs of Daniel's award.
The entire room watched as the paper trail unfolded in undeniable detail:
FORGED POWER OF ATTORNEY: Video footage captured Patricia and Richard in a downtown office standing beside notary Victoria Carter, stamping my forged signature onto trust transfer papers while I was out of the country on business.
THE EMBEZZLEMENT: Direct wire logs showing $1.8 million moving from my private trust directly into offshore betting accounts managed under Daniel’s name.
THE CAR LOANS: Financed luxury vehicles registered under my social security number without my consent.
Patricia fell back against a velvet armchair, weeping frantic, fake tears. "Haley! Please! We're your parents! We did it for the family! Daniel needed a start in life! You have so much money—why are you being so selfish?!"
"Selfish?" I echoed softly, looking at the woman who had hung up on me while I was bleeding in an emergency room. "When I called you tonight from a hospital bed, terrified and bruised after a car accident, you told me not to ruin Daniel's special night. When I called Dad, he told me my potential death was 'poor timing.'"
May you like
I stepped closer to Patricia, looking down into her bloodshot, terrified eyes.
"You didn't care if I died tonight," I whispered, every word dropped like a block of ice. "Because if I died, you thought your forged power of attorney would give you complete control of my sixty-million-dollar estate."
