Chapter 3 - The Blood of the DynastyThe entire courtyard went so quiet that the autumn wind sounded like a roar.

Arthur Whitmore went completely still. His sharp gray eyes slowly turned from me toward his bride-to-be, who was now clinging to the wooden altar rail, her body trembling so violently she could barely stand.

"Vanessa..." Arthur spoke. His voice wasn't loud, but it held a dark, terrifying weight that made the surrounding security guards straighten up in alert. "What is she talking about?"

"It's a lie! It's a lie, Arthur!" Vanessa shrieked, tears cutting messy tracks through her mascara. "She's trying to ruin us! She forged those clinic papers! Julian, tell your father to throw her out! Tell the guards to drag her away!"

Julian didn't order the guards.

He stood in the center of the aisle, looking from Vanessa’s frantic, sweat-slicked face to the four calm toddlers standing beside me.

He walked over to the marble reading stand, his shaking fingers lifting the second document.

Inside were certified billing records, donor selection forms, and sworn affidavits from the lead embryologist at the Upstate Reproductive Center.

The documents proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the three celebrated triplet boys—the heirs who had motivated Arthur to pay me twelve million dollars to disappear—were biologically conceived using donor genetic material matched to Marcus Sterling, Vanessa’s ex-fiancé who had been quietly living in a luxury condo in Boston funded by Whitmore expense accounts.

Julian’s face went from pale to an ugly, mottled gray.

He slowly turned his head, staring at Vanessa as if looking at a venomous snake that had been coiled around his neck for three years.

"They aren't mine...?" Julian whispered, the words dragging out of his throat like broken glass. "The triplets... aren't my sons?"

"Julian, baby, listen to me!" Vanessa wept, dropping to her knees on the ivory runner, reaching out her manicured hands to grab the hem of his trousers. "I did it for us! You wanted a family! Your father was threatening to cut you out of the company if you didn't produce an heir! I just wanted to give you what you needed!"

"YOU FRAUDULENT BITCH!" Arthur Whitmore roared.

The sixty-five-year-old billionaire lunged forward, his face flushed crimson with an apocalyptic, terrifying rage. "YOU BROUGHT ANOTHER MAN'S SPURIOUS BLOOD INTO MY FAMILY ESTATE?! YOU USED MY MONEY TO RAISE A STERLING'S BASTARDS?!"

May you like

"Arthur, please!" Vanessa sobbed, crawling backward across the runner as four heavy Whitmore security guards stepped between her and the enraged patriarch.

The four hundred guests broke into an absolute frenzy of shouting, press cameras flashing rapidly from behind the iron gates, and high-society patrons jumping out of their seats to witness the complete, public annihilation of the Whitmore dynasty.
