Chapter 6 - The Siege of Beacon HillThe peace didn't last forty-eight hours.

News of Dominic Moretti breaking off his engagement with the Barrett dynasty, coupled with rumors of four secret heirs appearing out of nowhere, hit Boston like a tidal wave. Rivals smelled blood in the water. Syndicate factions loyal to the disgraced Uncle Vincent began mobilizing across the city, testing Dominic’s new, unyielding grip on the family empire.
It was 2:00 AM on a rainy Thursday when the security alarms throughout the Beacon Hill estate began screaming.
In the master suite upstairs, Dominic was awake instantly. He slid out of bed without waking Clara, who was sleeping peacefully with the four boys curled around her in the king-sized bed down the hall.
Dominic pulled a Beretta 92FS from his bedside holster, clicking off the safety with a sharp, familiar sound. He stepped out into the dark hallway just as Mateo came running up the grand staircase, his breathing heavy.
“Boss, we’ve got movement at the rear perimeter gate,” Mateo reported rapidly, keeping his voice low. “Three vehicles. Heavily armed. They’re making a push for the conservatory doors. Vincent’s loyalists—they’re trying to take the boys to use as leverage against your leadership.”
Dominic’s eyes turned pitch black with a cold, terrifying fury.
“Lock down the upper floor,” Dominic ordered, his voice ringing with absolute authority. “Secure Mrs. Moretti and the boys in the panic room behind the library. Nobody gets in.”
“Boss, there’s too many of them for a standard sweep—!”
“Let them come,” Dominic interrupted, a dark, dangerous smile touching his lips. “They wanted my kingdom? I’m going to show them what happens when you threaten my family.”
Minutes later, the sound of splintering glass echoed from the ground floor as heavy boots crossed the hardwood foyer.
Dominic stood at the top of the grand staircase, the dim emergency lighting casting long shadows across the marble rails. He raised his pistol, took a steady breath, and opened fire.
The firefight was short, brutal, and utterly one-sided. Dominic moved through the shadows of his own estate with lethal precision, cutting off escape routes, disabling the intruders one by one, while Mateo and his loyal security team swept the lower perimeter. Within twenty minutes, the estate was silent once more, save for the patter of rain against the windows and the groans of captured mercenaries tied up in the courtyard.
Dominic walked slowly back up the stairs, his hands smelling of gunsmoke, his shirt stained with dust and a graze of blood along his forearm.
He pushed open the heavy steel door of the panic room.
Clara was sitting on the edge of the reinforced cot, holding all four boys tightly in her arms. When she saw Dominic walk in, pale, exhausted, but alive, she gasped and jumped to her feet, rushing across the room straight into his arms.
She buried her face in his shoulder, sobbing openly as her hands gripped the fabric of his shirt.
“You’re bleeding,” she whispered frantically, pulling back to check his arm. “Dominic, are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” he murmured, cupping her face in his calloused hands and pressing a fierce, desperate kiss to her lips. “It’s over, Clara. They’re gone. Vincent’s loyalists have been neutralized, and the rest of the syndicate knows what happens if they ever look in our direction again.”
Clara looked up at him, her dark eyes shining with a mixture of terror and overwhelming relief. “You risked everything for us.”
“You are everything,” Dominic replied simply.
Four small pairs of arms suddenly wrapped around their legs from behind.
“Dad?” Noah asked, looking up with big, watery eyes. “Can we go back to sleep now?”
May you like
Dominic chuckled, a rich, genuine sound that chased the last shadows from the room. He scooped Noah up into one arm and Julian into the other, looking down at Leo and Lucas clinging to his trousers.
“Come on, boys,” Dominic smiled, pulling Clara close to his side with his free arm. “Let’s go home.”
