Chapter 1 - The Descent of the Iron FleetThe roar of the Coast Guard turbine engines didn't just fill the air above the Cabo resort bay—it vibrated inside the marrow of our bones. The sky, which moments before had been a clear, sun-drenched blue over the luxury docks, darkened instantly as a formation of heavy military transport helicopters surged over the horizon, their rotors cutting the wind with thunderous authority.

Victoria Hayes, who had been laughing a second ago while throttling her high-powered watercraft fifty yards ahead of me, cut her engine so abruptly she nearly pitched over the handlebars. Her blond hair whipped wildly across her face as she stared up at the sky, her mouth hanging open in slack-jawed terror.
On the distant wooden dock, Julian Vance lowered his binoculars with a violent jerk. The crystal glass of scotch slipped from his fingers, shattering against the weathered planks, the amber liquid pooling like blood in the morning sun. The polished, untouchable tech CEO of Vance Technologies was suddenly a tiny, shaking figure watching his glittering world collapse.
A massive gray naval cutter bearing the insignia of the United States Coast Guard and maritime tactical units surged past Victoria’s jet ski, throwing up a towering wall of white foam that rocked her machine violently.
“Cut your engine and raise your hands!” a voice boomed from the cutter’s loudspeaker, sharp and merciless.
Through the salt spray and blinding pain searing across my lower abdomen, I gripped the handles of my jet ski, fighting the darkness that threatened to pull me under. The heavy, warm wetness between my legs was undeniable. Blood mixed with the turquoise ocean water, turning a sickly pink beneath me. My breathing came in ragged, burning gasps. Thirty-eight weeks pregnant, drugged with a sedative Julian had slipped into my morning vitamins, and dragged across the rough open sea—my body was screaming for mercy.
Instead of mercy, I felt a cold, righteous fury take root.
Four-star Admiral Hector Sterling did not raise his only daughter to be a footnote in a cheating husband’s greed story.
A specialized fast-response RIB (Rigid-Inflatable Boat) dropped from the davits of the leading naval cutter, slamming into the water with a heavy crash. Four heavily armed tactical operators in matte-black wetsuits and tactical vests scrambled aboard. Within seconds, the boat pulled alongside my jet ski.
The lead operator—a veteran Navy SEAL with a scar tracking down his left jawline—killed my engine. He tossed his assault rifle to his chest sling, his eyes widening in horror as he took in my blood-soaked shorts, the raw rope burns slicing into my wrists, and the massive, trembling bulge of my nine-month pregnant belly.
“Get a medic! Immediate medical evacuation! Now!” the operator roared into his shoulder mic, his hands moving with incredible gentleness as he sliced through the nylon straps binding my wrists to the handlebars.
As strong arms lifted my battered, trembling body from the jet ski onto the secure deck of the tactical boat, I looked past the rescue team toward the resort dock.
Julian was sprinting down the wooden boards now, shoving aside wealthy tourists and hotel staff in a blind panic, screaming my name.
“Genevieve! Wait! Genevieve, it’s a mistake! Let me explain!”

I didn't answer. I simply looked him dead in the eyes as the medic secured the oxygen mask over my face. The man who had vowed to protect me, who had drugged me so his mistress could murder our child and secure my family’s unseen fortune, was finally realizing who my father really was.
And the fleet was just getting started.
