Chapter 5 - The Unspoken VowRoman looked at the tin box, then looked at the nine-year-old boy who had guarded it with his life.

A rare, breathtaking smile touched Roman’s carved lips—a look of pure, reverent warmth that lit up his eyes.

He walked over, kneeling beside the coffee table, picking up a single silver quarter from the box, slipping it carefully into his coat pocket.

"The debt is paid in full, Caleb," Roman said softly, extending his broad, calloused hand toward the boy. "And from today on... nobody will ever make your sister disappear again."

Caleb took Roman’s hand, shaking it with a serious, solemn nod.

Nora looked up at Roman from the couch, tears sparkling in her hazel eyes, her heart swelling with an emotion so deep and profound it took her breath away.

For five years, she had thought he was a cold, unfeeling man who lived in shadows and silence. Today, she saw the truth—he was a sovereign protector who would tear down an empire to keep a promise.

Over the next three weeks, Roman’s private medical team transformed the quiet apartment in Highlandtown into a sanctuary of healing and peace.

Nora’s strength returned day by day. Her skin regained its healthy glow, her split lips healed, and the dark bruises on her wrists vanished, replaced by a radiant, quiet grace that captivated Roman every time he visited.

Every evening at 5:00 PM, a black staff car would pull up to the brick building. Roman would walk upstairs, carrying fresh pastries for Caleb and fresh orchids for Nora, sitting at their small kitchen table for dinner, listening to Caleb talk about his baseball games while sharing quiet, meaningful glances with Nora across the table.

The feared Don of Baltimore, who had lived fourteen years in dark, silent isolation, had finally found his home.
