Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of the Lies“Vanessa?”

Julian’s voice broke through the suffocating tension as he finally dragged his gaze away from the DNA report and looked toward his bride. He walked slowly back up the steps of the altar, holding the papers out toward her as if seeking reassurance from the woman he had chosen over me.

“Look at this, Vanessa,” Julian said, his voice trembling with shock. “Evelyn… she had our kids. Four of them. We have four more children.”

Instead of running into his arms or expressing shock at the betrayal of his ex-wife, Vanessa flinched violently away from him. She took two stumbling steps backward, nearly tripping over the heavy layers of her designer wedding gown, her eyes wide with animalistic panic.

“Don’t touch me!” Vanessa hissed, her voice sharp and hysterical, shattering the last illusion of her polite, sweet-natured persona.

Charles frowned, stepping between them. “Vanessa, calm yourself. This is just a legal ambush staged by a bitter woman trying to extort our estate. We’ll invalidate the paternity test in court—”

“You can’t invalidate it!” Vanessa screamed, the words tearing out of her throat before she could stop them.

The entire lawn went dead silent. A pin drop would have sounded like a gunshot.

Charles blinked, momentarily stunned. “What did you say?”

Vanessa’s chest heaved, her mascara beginning to run down her pale cheeks as she realized what she had just blurted out in front of three hundred witnesses, reporters, and lawyers. She looked around wildly, realizing she had walked herself directly into a corner from which there was no escape.

“You idiots,” Vanessa whispered, her voice dropping into a venomous, trembling hiss as she glared at Charles and Margaret. “You absolute, arrogant fools. You cared so much about your precious bloodline, your three future heirs, your corporate dynasty… you never once bothered to ask the hard questions.”

Julian stared at her, his face devoid of blood. “Vanessa… what are you talking about?”

Vanessa let out a harsh, broken laugh, tears finally spilling over her lashes. She turned her wild gaze onto Julian, her eyes full of contempt.

“You think those three boys in my belly are yours, Julian?” she spat out.

The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Julian stumbled backward, colliding heavily with the floral arch. “What… what the hell do you mean? Of course they’re mine! You told me—”

“I told you what you needed to hear so you would leave your wife and hand me a black card!” Vanessa screamed, tearing the expensive diamond necklace from her neck and flinging it onto the grass. “The twins belong to a professional tennis player I was seeing in the Hamptons. And the third one? Even I need a paternity test to figure out which executive from the merger board is footing the child support!”

A collective gasp echoed across the lawn. Several socialites literally clutched their pearls. Margaret Whitmore let out a choked, unnatural sound, her hands flying to her chest as her knees buckled beneath her; Charles caught her just in time to keep her from collapsing onto the grass.

Julian looked like a man who had just been hit by a freight train. He turned his wide, hollow eyes from Vanessa back to me, then down to my four little children standing safely by the Cadillac.

The contrast couldn't have been more brutal.

Vanessa—the woman he had traded me for, the woman who had given him three “heirs”—was standing on the altar exposing herself as a fraud, a liar, and an opportunist.

While I—the woman he had discarded, the wife he had paid twelve million dollars to disappear—stood quietly with four undeniable, genetically verified pieces of his soul safely tucked behind my protection.

Julian dropped to his knees on the stone pavers, the DNA report slipping from his limp fingers, fluttering down onto the grass like a fallen leaf.
