Chapter 4 - The Corporate CoupThe music had stopped entirely. The thirty-seven dancers and guests stood in absolute silence, watching the domestic drama unfold with breathless fascination.

Alexander stared at his wife, his mouth slightly open, the color completely draining from his face. For two years, he had treated Erin like an invisible piece of furniture—a quiet accessory meant to decorate his home while he pursued Sophia and built his financial empire. He had never once looked into her background, her family, or the legal ironclad structure of her assets.
"That's... that's impossible," Alexander stammered, shaking his head. "Thorne & Grant Capital is my firm. I founded it!"
"You founded it with two million dollars in seed capital provided by Vance & Grant Holdings—my family’s venture arm," Erin corrected him, her voice ringing out clearly across the silent room. "When you diverted company funds last month to buy Sophia a luxury penthouse in Paris without board approval, you committed corporate embezzlement and breach of fiduciary duty."
Alexander stumbled backward, his hip hitting the edge of the dining table where the cold, untouched steak from earlier in the evening still sat under its silver dome.
"You... you knew?" he whispered, horror dawning in his eyes.
"I’ve known for six months," Erin said calmly. "I was just waiting for our anniversary to see how far your arrogance would take you. You couldn't even spend two hours with your wife on our anniversary without running off to your first love. You handed me an unlimited card as a parting gift. So I took your gift."
At that exact moment, the front doors pushed open again.
This time, it wasn't dancers or socialites. Two men in tailored dark suits walked into the foyer, holding heavy leather briefcases. It was Arthur Vance, senior legal counsel for the family trust, accompanied by a local county bailiff.
Arthur walked straight past the stunned crowd and stopped in front of Erin, nodding respectfully.
"Good evening, Mrs. Grant," Arthur said formally. He turned his cold gaze toward Alexander. "Mr. Alexander Grant. As of 12:05 AM, the board of Vance & Grant Holdings has voted unanimously to execute an emergency asset freeze, strip you of your executive partnership, and initiate criminal proceedings for corporate fraud and illicit asset diversion."
Alexander grabbed the edge of the table, his knees buckling slightly. "No... you can't do that. I have investors! I have clients!"
"Your clients have already been notified of your impending indictment for wire fraud and misappropriation of funds," Arthur replied flatly, opening his briefcase to display official court seals. "Furthermore, federal marshals have frozen your personal assets, including your offshore accounts in the Caymans."
Alexander looked around the room, desperate, his eyes pleading for an ally. But the guests were already whispering among themselves, pulling out their phones to record the spectacular downfall of Wall Street's golden boy.
Even the thirty-seven dancers were quietly packing up their gear, sensing the show was over.
As the bailiff stepped forward to serve the formal injunction papers, Alexander looked back at Erin, his voice cracking with utter despair.
"Erin... please. We were married. We can fix this. Drop the charges. I'll cut ties with Sophia. I'll do whatever you want."
May you like
Erin looked down at him with quiet, chilling indifference.
"When you left me alone with my cold dinner tonight to go running to Sophia, you made your choice, Alexander," Erin said softly. "Now, please leave my house. My guests and I have a party to finish."
