Chapter 3 - The Boardroom RevoltBy 8:30 AM on Christmas morning, the snow had stopped, leaving the county blanketed in a deceptive, pristine white stillness. But inside the glass-and-steel headquarters of Hale Enterprises downtown, the atmosphere was nothing short of apocalyptic.

Evan strode through the double glass doors of the executive suite, his tailored wool overcoat unbuttoned, his face pale and slick with nervous sweat. He had tried calling his lead corporate lawyer four times; the phone had gone straight to voicemail every single time.
His chief financial officer, Marcus Vance, was already waiting by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the frozen city skyline with a look of utter despair.
“Marcus!” Evan snapped, marching across the plush carpet. “What is this nonsense about an asset freeze? My personal accounts are locked, the corporate clearinghouse is rejecting our payroll transfers, and the board’s emergency fund has vanished!”
Marcus turned slowly, his face drained of color. He held out a thick manila folder stamped with a red wax seal that Evan recognized instantly.
The Ellis family crest.
“It’s not a glitch, Evan,” Marcus said, his voice trembling slightly. “An hour ago, the primary equity holder of our core funding trust exercised a total recall clause. They didn’t just freeze our accounts—they executed a hostile restructuring of voting shares.”
Evan snatched the folder from Marcus's hands. His eyes scanned the legal jargon, the words blurring together into a nightmare: Forfeiture of control due to breach of fiduciary responsibility, financial malfeasance, and contractual abuse of trust.
“This is impossible,” Evan breathed, his hands shaking as he clutched the heavy paper. “My mother and I hold controlling interest through the initial incorporation documents of 2018. We reviewed this with legal three years ago!”
“You didn’t review the master rider attached to the original capital injection,” Marcus said bitterly. “The one signed on your wedding day. Do you even know who the primary trustee of the Ellis holding fund is, Evan?”
Evan stared at him blankly. “It’s just an old man who grows tomatoes near Blackwood Lake. Arthur Ellis. He’s a nobody.”
“He is Colonel Arthur Ellis,” a cool, unfamiliar voice echoed from the doorway of the executive suite.
Evan spun around. Standing in the entrance was a sharp, impeccably dressed woman in a charcoal suit, accompanied by two armed private security guards and a representative from the federal securities commission. She held a leather briefcase bearing the insignia of the state’s most elite corporate litigation firm.
“I am Victoria Vance, senior counsel for the Ellis Estate,” the woman announced, stepping into the room with absolute authority. “Effective immediately, Evan Hale, you are stripped of all executive powers, board voting rights, and corporate representation within Hale Enterprises. You are also being served with an emergency injunction for financial fraud, embezzlement of trust funds, and domestic abuse.”
Evan stepped back, bumping against his executive desk. “You can’t do this. I built this company! I am the CEO!”
“You were a borrower riding on the collateral of a decorated military intelligence officer and industrialist,” Victoria replied crisply, opening her briefcase and pulling out a set of federal warrants. “And right now, Colonel Ellis has authorized every single legal weapon in his arsenal to dismantle your entire existence.”

Before Evan could form a coherent sentence, the office doors swung open wider. Two local police officers, accompanied by a state magistrate, walked in, holding a set of gleaming steel handcuffs.
“Evan Hale,” the lead officer said, stepping forward. “You are under arrest for domestic assault, financial forgery, and malicious abandonment of a minor in severe weather conditions. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”
