Chapter 1 - The Trap is SetThe digital clock on the microwave glowed 11:45 PM. The shattered ceramic from the dinner plate had long been swept into a dustpan, but the residue of Mason’s rage still hung thick in the air like ozone after a lightning strike.

He was sitting slumped on the living room sofa, nursing a fresh glass of whiskey, his right wrist still throbbing where I had pinned him to the hardwood floor. Every time I walked past the living room, his eyes darted toward me with a mixture of terror and bewildered resentment. He still couldn't comprehend how the quiet, polite woman he thought he had trapped into a domestic prison was actually a trained black belt and self-defense expert.

"You're crazy," he muttered into his glass, his voice shaking slightly. "You're genuinely insane."

"No, Mason," I said, leaning against the kitchen counter while quietly organizing the digital files on my laptop. "I’m just thorough. You and your mother spent months orchestrating a financial and emotional cage, making sure I was isolated, controlled, and financially drained. You forgot one minor detail: people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw dinner tables."

The video I had recorded of his confession was securely uploaded to an encrypted cloud server, backed up across three different encrypted drives, and mirrored onto my personal attorney’s secure portal. Along with the audio message from Linda Carter—his mother—instructing him to seize my bank accounts and physically abuse me until I submitted, we had an airtight criminal and civil case.

But I didn't want a quiet, bloodless divorce through a mediator's office.

Linda Carter had orchestrated this entire scheme. She was the architect of my misery, the puppet master who had coached Mason on how to break my spirit, steal my paycheck, and reduce me to a terrified housewife. She had promised to arrive at 8:00 AM sharp to "make sure I had learned my lesson."

She wanted a submissive daughter-in-law broken in by domestic terror.

Instead, she was going to walk straight into a tribunal.

"What are you planning to do to her?" Mason asked, his voice cracking with sudden panic as he looked at my calm expression. "My mother is an older woman. You can't just... you can't humiliate her."

"Humiliate her?" I turned around, my eyes locking onto his with a cold intensity that made him shrink back into the cushions. "Mason, your mother told you to hit me. She plotted to steal my earnings, strip away my autonomy, and turn this house into a torture chamber. Whatever happens tomorrow morning is entirely on her head—and yours."

I walked over to the hallway closet, pulled out a heavy-duty tripod, and set up a wide-angle security camera facing the front entryway. I connected it to a local recording deck and tested the audio feed.

"What's that for?" Mason whispered, his face turning the color of skim milk.

"A keepsake," I smiled. "For the divorce proceedings. And perhaps for the local police precinct. Sleep tight, husband. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day."
