Chapter 4 - The Corporate UnravelingThe fallout inside the boardroom was immediate, ruthless, and absolute.

Arthur Henderson didn't waste a single breath on pleasantries. He stood up, signaled his legal counsel, and turned toward the door.
"Jared," Arthur said coldly as he passed the trembling senior partner. "Consider our business relationship terminated. My legal team will be in touch with your firm's primary partners by noon regarding breach of contract, intellectual property misappropriation, and fraudulent misrepresentation."
Before Jared could stammer a single syllable of defense, Arthur walked out, followed by his entire executive team.
The heavy mahogany doors clicked shut, leaving only the three of us inside the massive, sunlit boardroom.
For a long moment, nobody moved. Kiera dropped her face into her hands, letting out a muffled, hysterical sob that echoed off the glass walls.
Jared slowly turned around, his polished corporate persona completely shattered. His eyes were bloodshot, his face twisted in a mask of manic desperation.
"You did this," Jared snarled, taking a threatening step toward me. "You planned this whole thing! You knew Henderson was going to pull the contract! You ruined my entire life over a stupid airplane seat?!"
I didn't flinch. I didn't step back. I simply looked at him with profound, icy pity.
"No, Jared," I said steadily. "I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I wanted to build a firm with you, celebrate your promotions, and stand beside you at our wedding. You destroyed your life because you were too arrogant, too greedy, and too stupid to realize that the person holding up your entire career was the one you kept trying to push into the back of the plane."
Jared raised his hand, his fingers curling into a fist as if he were actually going to strike me right there across the conference table.
Click.
The boardroom door swung open, and two hotel security guards—summoned discreetly by Arthur Henderson's chief of staff on their way out—stepped firmly into the room.
"Is there a problem here, Mr. Vance?" the lead security guard asked, eyeing Jared's aggressive posture with cold suspicion.
I slipped my hands into my blazer pockets. "No problem at all, officer. Just Trespassing and corporate property retrieval. Mr. Vance and Ms. Parker are just finishing packing their things. They'll be leaving the premises immediately."
"You can't do this!" Kiera wailed, looking up from her chair, mascara running down her cheeks. "Jared, tell them! Tell them we're partners!"
Jared didn't look at her. He couldn't. His phone was buzzing violently in his pocket—likely the senior partners back in Boston receiving Arthur Henderson's official termination notice and the news that their largest multi-million-dollar account had just walked out the door with a single consultant.

"Pack your bags, Kiera," Jared muttered, his voice hollow and defeated.
I turned my back on them, walking out of the boardroom without a backward glance. My work here in Miami was done. But the real reckoning back in Boston was only just beginning.
