Chapter 5 - The Collapse

“No!” Spencer screamed, lunging forward in a desperate, unhinged panic before the tactical guards smoothly stepped in, blocking his path with effortless authority. “Phoebe, you can’t do that! That will destroy everything I’ve built! We’re husband and wife!”
“We won't be for much longer,” Phoebe replied coldly. “My divorce attorneys filed the petition an hour ago. You’ll be served with the papers before midnight, Spencer.”
Marcus Vance shoved his way through the stunned crowd, his face twisted in utter despair. “Spencer! It’s over! The banks are locking our servers! All our commercial tenants are breaking their leases in real-time! We’re facing millions in immediate liabilities with zero liquid cash!”
Paisley Daley looked at Spencer as if he were a plague victim. The billionaire CEO she had latched onto for status and luxury had suddenly transformed into a broke, legally ruined nobody in a matter of five minutes.
“Spencer... is this true?” Paisley hissed, letting go of his arm as if it were burning her. “You told me you were a self-made billionaire! You told me your company was bulletproof!”
“Paisley, wait, let me explain—'” Spencer reached out for her, but she recoiled in disgust.
“Don't touch me, you pathetic fraud,” Paisley snapped publicly, turning on her heel and pushing her way furiously through the crowd toward the elevators, desperate to distance herself from the sinking ship.
Raymond Harrell stepped forward, looking down at Spencer with absolute contempt.
“When I built my empire, boy, I taught my daughter the value of humility,” Raymond said quietly, his voice cutting through the silent room like a knife. “You mistook her kindness for weakness. You mistook her patience for stupidity. And in the world of high finance, that is a fatal mistake.”
Phoebe didn't shout, she didn't cry, and she didn't gloat. She simply looked at the man who had broken her heart, feeling nothing—not even anger. Just a profound, liberating emptiness where the pain used to live.
“Enjoy the rest of the gala, Spencer,” Phoebe said softly, turning her back on him. “Though I suggest you check out of your penthouse suite tonight. The building belongs to my trust now, and checking out time was ten minutes ago.”

Accompanied by her father, Mrs. Gladys, and the security detail, Phoebe walked gracefully toward the private VIP elevator.
Behind her, Spencer Conway collapsed onto his knees on the marble floor, his expensive tuxedo rumpled, his empire reduced to dust in front of the very people he had spent years trying to impress. The glittering lights of the Cleveland skyline outside the penthouse window no longer looked like a kingdom he ruled; they looked like a cage closing in around him.
