Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary at the ManorBy 8:00 PM that evening, the rain over Brooklyn had turned into a low, misty fog that hung heavily over the East River.

Inside the grand master suite of The Castellano Estate in Dyker Heights—a magnificent twenty-acre limestone manor surrounded by high stone walls, ancient oak trees, and elite security—a quiet, weightless peace settled into Amelia's soul.
The emergency trauma team from New York Presbyterian had treated the minor concussion on her temple, applied a delicate butterfly bandage over her brow, and administered a mild sedative to help her rest.
Amelia sat on the edge of the large king-sized bed, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater and tailored trousers provided by Vincent's estate staff. Her dark hair was dry, falling in soft waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes holding a quiet, breathless wonder as she looked around the sunlit, mahogany-paneled room.
KNOCK. KNOCK.
The heavy mahogany door opened gently.
Vincent Castellano walked inside carrying a silver tray with a cup of hot chamomile tea, fresh pastries, and a thick leather folder bound by red judicial seals.
He set the tray flat onto the bedside table, sitting on the leather chair beside her, his storm-gray eyes scanning her face with a deep, intense relief that made her heart flutter against her ribs.
"How is the head feeling, Amelia?" Vincent asked softly, his deep baritone filling the quiet, warm room.
"It doesn't hurt anymore, Mr. Castellano," Amelia admitted, offering a soft, radiant smile. "I... I don't know how to thank you. You saved my life today."
Vincent took her small, warm hand into his broad, calloused palm, his thumb gently brushing across her skin.
"You don't need to thank me, Amelia," Vincent revealed gently, his voice thick with deep, genuine emotion. "Twenty years ago, your father, Arthur Vance, took a bullet intended for me during the harbor union disputes. Before he passed away, he asked me to keep an eye on his little girl."
Amelia’s eyes welling with heavy, unadulterated tears. "My father... spoke about you?"
"Every single day," Vincent promised softly. "When you escaped Raymond Fletcher's apartment three years ago and arrived at my diner under a false name, I let you work because I saw your father's unbroken pride in your eyes. But today... the hiding is over."
He opened the leather folder on the bedside table, laying two certified court documents flat before her.
