Chapter 6 - The Encounter on the StepsWhen the summit concluded at 4:00 P.M., the international guests poured out onto the majestic stone steps of The Plaza Hotel overlooking Fifth Avenue under a clear, crisp autumn sun.

Emma walked down the central marble steps, flanked by Captain Hayes and four broad-shouldered Vance security operators.

Andrew Weston pushed frantically through the crowd of reporters, reaching his trembling hands out toward her, his voice cracking into a raw, pathetic plea.

"Emma! Emma... please!" Andrew wept, dropping flat onto his knees right on the cold stone steps in front of dozens of flashing news cameras. "Look at me! Please... just look at me for one second!"

The security team immediately stepped forward, forming an unbroken, iron wall between Andrew and the sovereign heiress.

Emma stopped three feet from where Andrew knelt on the marble stone.

She looked down at him—seeing zero hatred, zero bitterness, and zero fear in her clear hazel eyes. She looked at him with the quiet, weightless sorrow one might feel for a stranger who had destroyed his own soul.

"Emma... my God, Emma..." Andrew sobbed, pressing his forehead against the cold stone at her feet. "Forgive me... I was blind! I was insane! I ruined everything! Let me see my daughter... please! Just let me see Clara once... let me be her father!"

Emma looked down at the man groveling in the dirt with quiet, unbroken dignity.

"You had two years to be a husband, Andrew," Emma spoke softly, her clear, velvet voice carrying cleanly across the silent crowd of journalists. "And you had the night at the Grand Hotel to be a father. You chose the cameras and the cruelty instead."

Andrew let out an agonizing, guttural shriek as he reached for her dress. "EMMA! PLEASE!"

"My daughter has a family, Andrew," Emma revealed cleanly, taking a slow step back onto the pristine step. "She has a legacy built on truth, dignity, and unbroken strength. She will never know your name."

Emma turned her back on him, walking cleanly toward her waiting black armored limousine, leaving Andrew groveling in total, public disgrace on Fifth Avenue as the flashing cameras documented his final, absolute ruin for the entire world to see.
