Chapter 3 - The Collapse on Wall StreetAndrew’s heart took a violent, sickening leap into his throat. He grabbed his remote control, snapping the wall-mounted television screen on.

The red breaking-news banners flooded the screen:
BREAKING NEWS: VANCE GLOBAL EXECUTES TOTAL ASSET RECAPTURE
WESTON CAPITAL MANAGEMENT FACES IMMEDIATE DEFAULT AS PRIMARY CREDIT LINES ARE REVOKED
FIFTY-BILLION-DOLLAR VANCE LEGACY RECLAIMED BY SOLE HEIRESS: DONNA EMMA VANCE
Andrew’s scotch glass slipped from his numb fingers.
CRASH!
The crystal shattered into a hundred glittering pieces against the hardwood floorboards, amber liquor splashing over Lila’s designer heels.
"What... what is this?!" Lila gasped, staring at the screen in horror. "Vance Global? Who is Donna Emma Vance?!"
Andrew couldn't speak. He couldn't breathe. His blood turned to ice water as a high-definition photograph from Teterboro Airport appeared on the news screen.
The photograph showed Emma—wearing an exquisite ivory wool coat that celebrated her six-month pregnant figure, her dark hair swept back in an elegant knot, her hazel eyes holding an absolute, sovereign power—stepping onto the airstairs of a customized Gulfstream G650 jet.
Below the photograph was a certified statement issued by the High Court of Geneva:
"Donna Emma Vance—sole heiress to the Vance Maritime & Energy Conglomerate—has officially severed all personal and financial ties with Andrew Weston. Following Mr. Weston's public breach of trust, Vance Global has initiated a full commercial recall of all secondary credit guarantees extended to Weston Capital Management."
The mathematical, catastrophic reality crashed over Andrew’s mind with the speed of a falling guillotine.
For three years, Andrew had believed his firm’s miraculous market expansions, its multi-million-dollar credit lines, and its preferred maritime contracts were the result of his own brilliant Wall Street intellect.
He had no idea that his quiet, humble wife—the woman he had mocked as "small," the woman he had cheated on in front of the world's cameras—was the sole owner of the fifty-billion-dollar empire that held his firm's neck in its hand.
BZZZ! BZZZ! BZZZ!
Andrew’s phone exploded with frantic, overlapping notifications:
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER: "Andrew! First National Bank just froze our primary operational accounts! We are insolvent!"
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD: "Emergency board meeting called for 6:00 AM. Your executive authority is suspended pending fraud investigation!"
PORT AUTHORITY COMMISSION: "West Side harbor lease revoked due to Vance Global credit recall!"
Lila Summers took two fast, clumsy steps backward, her face turning paper-white. "Andrew... you... you said you were worth hundreds of millions! You said your wife had nothing!"

"GET OUT!" Andrew roared, his voice cracking into raw, unhinged fury as he swept his desk lamp onto the floorboards. "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, LILA!"
Lila shrieked in terror, grabbing her shoes and handbag, sprinting out through the penthouse foyer into the dark hallway, leaving Andrew standing alone in the wreckage of his ruined life.
